Countries more developed than the UK (according to HDI rankings)

  1. The Human Development Index, or HDI, is a metric compiled by the United Nations Development Programme and used to quantify a country’s “average achievement in three basic dimensions of human development: a long and healthy life, knowledge, and a decent standard of living.”

  2. The Human Development Index is such a weird metric with some pretty unintuitive (to me) results. It’s always hard to tell when they are unintuitive because of unfair biases on my part, or just a weird choice of measurement / weighting.

  3. With how badly the uk is being run right now and living cost crisis, this may not remain true for long.
