Government to weaken water pollution goals in ‘attack on nature’

  1. The race to the bottom has well and truly begun. Will there be anything left to save when this government has finished trashing the country

  2. >James Wallace, the chief executive of campaign group [River Action](https://riveractionuk.com/), said: “Agriculture is the biggest polluter of our rivers. We had hoped the new secretary of state, Thérèse Coffey, would end the attack on nature unleashed by her predecessor. Instead, her first move is to extend the deadline for unabated agricultural pollution to 18 years, further demonstrating this government doesn’t care about the water and nature emergency.

If the government isn’t going to bother trying to correct this then we can take action.

We can reduce demand of animal products as much as we can to prevent agricultural run off from animal waste and fertiliser used to grow animal feed.

It’s currently a huge problem destroying ecosystems in rivers all over the UK. It will only get worse if nothing changes.

  3. When nature makes a profit, the government will protect it. Until then, it just gets in their way and they will happily loosen all protections as much as possible. I hope those who vote Tory but love wild swimming, live in rural/coastal communities, or who are National Trust members see this and feel shame over who they have let destroy the British landscape.
