Why are they cash starved? They charge these students an arm and a leg.
I’m not sure why Indian or Chinese students would attend a UK university.
There are no tuition fees in German universities, even for foreigners.
Ok, they have to learn German. It’s a small price to pay for an education that is every bit as good as anything the UK has to offer. Those foreign students also get a job seeker visa valid for a year after graduation.
We have a Chinatown now, entirely based on the huge number of Chinese students attending university in the city. It doesn’t serve any local Chinese community as there isn’t a significant one. If the Chinese suddenly decide not to come and study here, one area of the town centre would close down entirely, and at least one of our universities would struggle. They’ve built a ton of high-rise student accommodation also. I can’t help thinking the uni and the council are putting all their eggs in one basket.
Some of the reason is increased compliance requirements on universities/public sector. This costs money.
Yet they keep building shit, all the unis are throwing money at fancy new vanity projects to attract rich foreigners. They’re basically being gentrified
From a national security point of view this has to be a big mistake. As long as the Communist party runs China we shouldn’t trust any Chinese National taking a job here after they graduate. And given India’s increasingly friendly relationship with Russia I think we should severely restrict their access as well.
From a cultural and social development point of view it has to be a big mistake as well.
Cut the vice chancellor’s salary as a starting point then.
I keep saying but I honestly don’t think more than a slim minority of the population understand how close to the precipice our HE sector has been pushed. Its in a very similar state to the NHS. Nothing really works any more, staff are incredibly burnt out and grossly underpaid for our time, any one with any sense either moves out of academia or leaves the country, but all the public see is us striking for a better deal and insist we’re not allowed to do that because it impacts the students more than multiple staff members having to go off sick every year due to stress-related illness or just leaving because you can get a similar or even better salary as a store manager these days.
Same thing happens in australia and canada. Foreign students are cash cows for universities when they end up charging double or triple
Cash starved?
Oxford alone has an annual endowment of over £1billion FFS.
What are they planning? Starting a fucking space programme?
You’d be surprised to know how big of marketing teams British universities have
How many of these students stay in the U.K.? Literally training up our future global competition in the markets for short term gain
When I graduated from my Masters, I had a small business offering private interview prep & portfolio advice for those applying to my alma matter. The demand from Chinese students was through the roof. They seemingly had no qualms about paying £250 for 1 hour of my time, many of them repeatedly. I was earning far more from that than I do in my day job.
Cash starved ? How much are the fees these cunts are charging people ?
Universities are mostly a cash cow these days and they don’t even care about cheating. They just want the money and will let you get away with anything as long as it’s not blatantly obvious.
