They probably need only the equivalent of 1.5, and will sell the capacity of the remaining 0.5 to Belgium at exuberant pricing, so we’ll be paying for their powerplants.
I think it’s smart. And i think Belgium makes a big mistake stepping away from nuclear. Knowing our neighbours all the plants will be built practicly on the border so we can enjoy the risk of a meltdown without the benefit of the actual power generation :p
At least we have some smart neighbours, let’s hope it will decrease the risk of blackouts in Belgium.
In 2050 Olivier Deleuze will be remembered as one of the guys who f*cked Belgium and the climate.
Smartest thing to do.
They are also keeping their existing plant at Borssele from 1973 open. That’s about the same age as oldest in Doel and Tihange.
Good, maybe we can buy some power off them.
Good, all our npp workers can commute to there and not France.
And perhaps we can start building plants as the BeNeLux trifecta.
I hope they build them on a plateau that is well above the current sea level.
Good.
Maybe we can beg them for a good price when we’ll need to buy energy from them.
But seriously though, the Netherlands have access to natural gas while we do not. We are much more reliant on imports than they are. Yet they plan to build new plants and we do not.
Everyone is aware now that we are making a mistake. But fixing that would blow up the government.
great, as long as the unitary energy market holds that’s as good as us building 2 new plants, hopefully it makes up for the lack of gas export
Who the fuck gave the minister of energy job to someone from Groen honestly
Oh boy, I am looking forward to de zevende dag or de afspraak op vrijdag.
Good for longterm, however I am sceptical if they built these using the same technology as the ones in Belgium and of if they will be built at all since the plan is quite vague right now. Also the (ever-increasing during construction) cost is really the biggest issue right now for building new nuclear power plants and they also seem to say not a lot about that
Also not sure when they will be ready to go, because that can probably still be a good 15 years of work which is not enough to really do something in terms of climate change.
I am thinking that investing into smaller power plants like France might be better, however that technology is also not ready at all and therefore can take a long time as well to be reliable and efficient.
So yeah New Nuclear power is good and all for long-term I guess, but not in the short-term I think.
