  1. Just a reminder that while the UK cries crocodile tears about the climate we still are not paying our share of the 100 bn a year agreed upon green fund for developing countries and our share of the loss and damage fund we agreed to in Cop27. The earth doesnt care where the Co2 emissions come from. The climate transends borders.

  2. We need steel. For that we need coal.

It’s like Labour want extra the carbon emissions from importing coal from the far side of the world.

  3. I’m a mega leftie but thisbpisses me off. We want to consume steel. We happily buy it in from abroad. We happily consume steel that can only be made using met coal. We are happy for other countries to deal with the dirty side of things like mining while we piss around producing nothing and taking responsibility for nothing like some pandered to teenager expecting everyone else to pick up the slack for us.the nimby attitude is out of control. If you want to use steel you’re going to have suck it up and be okay with mining. This mine is not thermal coal. We have alternatives to thermal coal. We have no alternative to met coal currently.

  4. Lol of course they would. Better to rely on foreign powers for essentials, because that hasn’t recently come back to bite us.

  5. There’s been a huge amount of misinformation about this mine. The coal is for use in steel production, not power generation. There is technology out there to produce steel without coking coal but most methods are at pilot plant stage at best. Bringing the tech up to scale will probably take around 20 years or so (ironically the projected life of the mine). Yes, the bulk of the coal will be exported. However, the mine is aiming to be carbon neutral and the coal will be extracted using more modern, cleaner and efficient techniques than used by other producers.
Lastly it will bring 500 long term, skilled jobs to one of the most deprived areas of the UK.
