This shouldn’t be news to anyone, “waste crime” is one of the main revenue sources for organized crime all over europe, it’s happening pretty much everywhere there are even moderately restricting laws about waste disposal, if not towards Romania towards Africa.

Several big countries, among them China and Turkey, have stopped importing British electronic and plastic waste in the past years. The British capacities for domestic waste processing are far below their waste production, their landfills are rapidly filling up, they have to get rid of it somehow. This is the result.
Any other country would have declared a waste crisis at the first sign of the problem and expanded the system asap. But this is the Brits we’re talking about, they can’t wipe their own arse without messing it up.
