As well they should. Allowing people who can to work from home is a no brainer. For two massive reasons.
1. The cost of living crisis means that people need to save money just to live. Cutting out the commute, buying lunch etc is a massive money saver for a lot of people.
2. We need to get our carbon emissions down. A lot. Immediately. Letting people stop coming into the office every day gets loads and loads of cars off the road. It also has the side benefit of making the remaining traffic run more smoothly for those who do have to go into the office.
When I worked at the office full time, I issued to regularly work until 7pm before heading home. Now that I work from home, I clock off at exactly 5pm to make dinner and spend time with my family, and then get those extra two hours of work in between 10pm and midnight after everyone else has gone to bed.
Working from home gives me the freedom to fit in work when is best for me and my family and I would not give it up.
A lot of companies will also struggle to recruit if they no longer offer a work from home option since competitors. I wouldn’t go back to a job that requires full-time in the office.
