Vulnerable boy ‘failed’ by two year wait for mental health care

  1. As anyone who has had experience of CAMHS in the last 7 or 8 years, this is a horrifyingly normal situation. CAMHS and social services are massively underfunded.

Cases are being triaged to the point where the only way you will get to see a councillor / receive help is to be actively trying to kill your self or someone else. Even then it might take a couple of serious attempts at taking your life to receive counselling or even get put on a watch list.

This is a situation that the Tories and their supporters have deliberately and systematically created in the UK by cutting funding in socially based resources.

  2. This is just NHS mental health services. At aged 13 I was referred to a NHS children’s GIC, but I never heard anything from them. When I was 20 I found out that the adult GICs did not even have evidence that I had ever been referred. So they put in a third referral to the service, and I have been waiting … … coming up to six years.

  3. My wife has been on the waiting list for a bit over 4 years now. This does not surprise me. Depressing.
