Una Mullally: Crack cocaine is ‘huge’ in Dublin. We are past the warning sign phase

  1. Heroin all over again. Warnings about crack have spoken about for years. Weren’t heeded at all and now it’s everywhere. Once again the vulnerable suffer and people will once again be dehumanised with names like “crackhead” “junkie” etc

  2. There needs to be an amnesty for non-violent drug crimes and a major investment in addiction services

What will happen is the usual knee jerk ‘law & order’ reaction capitalised on and endorsed by Fine Gael and in 10 years the best we can hope for is cleaner streets and bigger prisons

  3. Once it stays away from the leafy suburbs no-one with any kind of power will care, much like in the heroin days. Even less so, because discarded needles aren’t a thing with crack.

  4. Trying to bring up the sheer problem of coke/crack yesterday in dublin and got shot down. There’s a 170% increase for admission to inpatients for cocaine addiction but no- nothing has changed, sure it’s normal to do a bit of coke 🙄
Someday we will have to wake up and deal with this as a society. I hope it comes soon.

  5. JFC she’s cycling past druggies this past 15 years in her way to the IY office and now she brings forebodings? It’s hardly cutting edge journalism.
