I can’t say I’m particularly comfortable with this kind of protest ban.
Good. The freedom to access abortion clinics without being harassed is more important than the freedom to intimidate people at clinics.
If you want to protest abortions, do it somewhere else, or just fuck off.
Cant we just deport anyone to the usa that wants to protest healthcare rights? I understand that there lack of any healthcare rights at all over there is probably more in tune with their fucked up sky mans teachings.
Awesome sauce! The government should go further and extend the ban to include protests on social media.
Banning foreign funding for religious or lobby groups would achieve the same effect and have other positive effects on society.
There’s a lot to be said for the USA’s absolutist approach to freedom of speech
This is one of the areas I’m glad the UK makes exceptions for
If you get discouraged by a protest being made illegal, don’t bother protesting because you clearly don’t care enough about the cause.
Good.
Accessing Heathcare should not be protested against.
Good we’re not America these religious bigots can jump in the ocean
People have every right to protest. This a needed in every civilised society.
Doing it outside the clinic is infringing on the freedom of others and is not ok.
I have the same issue with the people gluing themselves to the m1.
This country is wild in its blatant disregard for fundamental human rights lmao. Freedom is speech is not allowed if I don’t personally like it.
At least back in America it was unambiguously free. Sure you have hate speech be legal but I’d rather have that then set up a slippery slope where it’s constitutionally possible that you could have a law where you can get jailed for misgendering someone.
This subreddit, last year: “NOOOOOOOO the Government can’t just arbitrarily control protests! That’s lidderal fascism! We should be allowed to protest wherever we want, whenever we want, and do whatever the fuck we want while we’re doing it!”
This subreddit, now: “Awesomesauce! Fuck people that intimidate others by shouting slogans and waving placards around! They’re lidderal fascists!”
Absolutely amazing, never change Reddit
Interesting. So the ability to cause distress to peoples lives and daily business is subject to what cause you have. If your cause is climate change it appears thats fine, if the cause is being against babies murdered in the womb then its not fine.
Cue downvotes !
When I first read this I thought it was in the US. I thought WTF, when did this happen. Then I realized it was UK.
Happy for you guys that have a court who protects you. Unlike ours who exploits us and protects big business.
Cheers.
Good. US evangelist organisations can fuck right off
if buts and coconuts, pass the bill or dont talk shit
I can’t say I feel particularly comfortable about this, from the perspective that I can’t see it being consistent – I can’t see the rationale in the article. The worry being that I don’t think people should only have permission to protest for pre-approved ‘right things’, as that is a slippery slope to fall down…
I’m not against abortions however there’s no way in hell I trust our current government won’t stop using this as a basis to ban protests full stop, they’ve already tried.
As much as I can agree that people should have full access to health care, at the same time the court have basically set a bad precedent and that government can then go on to introduce more bans aimed at stopping protests which is something we shouldn’t allow.
At least we’re a lot more sensible than the US on this front.
I totally agree with this move.
It’s funny though that this will probably (and rightly so) get widespread support but powers to block just stop oil protests are generally criticized as “everyone has the right to protest”.
I think this reiterates that while everyone has the right to protest, nobody can expect people to listen and nobody has the right to be a dick.
