I guess there must be at least a few people that think of him other than as an opportunist with no real beliefs other than what is convenient for him at the time.
That is a very selective quote from an article which is far from complementary about Leo.
“Lorcan Sirr, a housing policy lecturer at Technological University Dublin, said Mr. Varadkar’s comments portrayed him as out of touch.
“The tin ear and lack of sensitivity to other people’s needs is fairly characteristic of his party,” Mr. Sirr noted. “Varadkar has had a fairly privileged housing upbringing in that he didn’t have to suffer the trials and tribulations that many young voters — now including many who would have voted Fine Gael — have to go through to find somewhere to live.”
For the past two years, he has also been dogged by questions about the legality and appropriateness of his actions when, as prime minister, he leaked details from a closed negotiation with Ireland’s main doctors’ organization to an acquaintance with an interest in the talks.”
To be fair, I think the end of that section is more about the fsct a gay man, son of an immigrant, is head of government as opposed to his policies.
Even 15 years ago, I would have said that was unlikely.
Cunt!
Is he bollocks! He’s an egotistical, self absorbed twat.
I find him inspiring as an irish leader.
Gay (often debated as self hating)
Half irish (mum is irish, dad is indian)
But we all dislike him for being an elitist money grabbing politician asshole.
Irish progress.
I’m not saying to stop hating.
But hate where hate disserves.
My question is who in FG camp is trying to get rid of him for a higher position?
Cause we have known the type of dickhead he is for over a decade. So why address it now?
Lol politics 🤣 😅
NYT is a rag these days. They’ve been caught publishing overt lies and inaccuracies more and more in recent years, not to mention the most obscene, deranged opinion pieces. Glorified 5th Avenue watch catalogue. Good for the theater though.

One thing I really don’t like is that nobody is allowed to change their opinion ever, especially as a politician: if you believe something at 25 you better believe the same at 45 or you’re a “hypocrite”
I swear there are soooo many actual problems with Leo and this government (just read Mary Lou’s speech from yesterday for a list) yet these quotes are the ones that show up the most (clickbait, I guess) 😩
What I don’t get is how under the radar that kissing video has gone. Imagine seeing Joe Biden, Rishi Sunak or literally any other world leader caught on camera snogging the face off someone not their significant other? They’d be hounded to step down so fast it’d make your head spin. Here? Tumbleweeds.

Flip flopping on abortion to pursue popularity isn’t a compliment surely?
You mean he 180’d when he realised he may lose votes over these issues.
For many, Sinn Fein, a revolutionary party who once had a record of violent sectarian, terrorist and criminal activities, was a symbol of Ireland’s transition to democracy
🤦
I find it very unsettling that he’s also highly favoured by the lads in the World Economic Forum.
Personally, glad he is back as Taoiseach and glad to see that last one gone. God forbid the Shinners get in. Up the Greens and down with crazy independents from Swords, Dublin, and Kerry.
Doesn’t matter what tou think of him. With the rolling agreement , he becomes taoiseach anyway. Weird world.
The Irish political system has a very strong whip system. Many TDs have a voting record that goes against their own personal beliefs. Not surprising that Leo was voting in line with the party.
I remember the episode of Vincent Brown show where he was having a go off of a FG TD because they’d supported the civil partnership bill. Vincent kept saying they supported that bill because they didn’t want gay marriage. Poor Vincent couldn’t believe that FG would genuinely support gay partnerships. At the time FG had two gay TDs that hadn’t come out; Leo and Jerry Buttimer.

That last line made me wince.
The NY times literally do no research at times
Who are these many?

It is paywalled, but you can read it by selecting the banner, using copy all and pasting into notes or another editor.

E.g. to take a section with a different slant
