Just Stop Oil’s message to Suella Braverman: threaten us all you like – we’re not listening | Indigo Rumbelow

  1. Must be nice to have such certainty in your life.

Probably also quite helpful to be good at not listening when you are planning to do something really really annoying.

  2. The protests will continue until the government **does what they know they must** and *Get Tough* on the fossil fuel industry.

  3. Anyone with half a brain knew this.

A judge passed an injunction banning anyone standing in the M25, one of the largest ever blanket protest bans, for a whole year; but you’d be daft to think this would actually bother JSO protesters. They’ve already clearly said they are willing to risk arrest and prison.

On a purely practical point, the UK is low on prison spaces. We could lock up some JSO protesters but after a while we would need to cut back on that as we just don’t have the space.

  4. Just Stop Oil protestors are missing the big picture. Putin is literally using his oil monopoly as a weapon to murder Ukrainians – should Western countries let Putin keep his ~50% share of the oil market because it makes us feel virtuous to keep our oil in the ground?

Another example of this is Joe Biden. He virtue signals about refusing permits to the US oil industry, whilst simultaneously begging the Saudis to get them to increase production to lower the price of oil.

There is a great way for Western democracies to lower the price of oil – extract all of our own oil.

  5. Criminal fucks trying to pervert the liberty and freedoms of democracy.

Vast majority of people have no desire to stop oil. We don’t want to throw our prosperity in the fucking bin. This sub is an echo chamber that’s nowhere near representative of the UK.

Democracy means nothing to a green fascist though. It’s their opinion or they’ll destroy everyone around them. No reasoning, just utter contempt for everyone else.

  6. i’m not buying the guardian’s narrative.

the only thing these extremist groups do is alienate the vast majority from the cause.

  7. It’s now or never. You either believe in what the experts and the science says or you don’t. Or maybe you just don’t care. But this is it, right now. We’re at a precipice.

  8. I mean we know they aren’t listening – criminals rarely do to people telling them to stop committing crimes.

And if these idiots were sane they wouldn’t be gluing themselves to roads in the first place.

  9. Can we argue this in a different way today? All these posts ever see is the same old arguments about the end of the world and blocking people who cant make rent payments etc

The real story here is about how powerless we are to make a difference in this country. Surely we should have a say as a country on these matters, but our electoral system doesn’t allow for it so we are left with these groups protesting for things. How can this be changed? our electoral system just isn’t working

  10. After your bombshell of a sky news interview indigo, I think it’s people who are not listening to you. Not the the other way around.

  11. Everyone should read ‘How The World Really Works’ by Vaclav Smil. Gives a great overview of the challenge of going net zero by 2050. The vast amounts of concrete, ammonia and oil used are going to be difficult to replace in the short/medium term.

  12. The government doesn’t need to threaten them or really do anything. Just Stop Oil (Paintings) have pissed off the wider global public who are going to start fighting back. There are numerous videos of: protesters being physically removed from the road, drivers simply driving forward regardless pushing them out of the way, and others driving through them at speed.

It’s a shame they don’t do this in Moscow or Beijing but that would require bravery, leaving their safe .t.v. camera covered comfort zone.
