I commented on a post here about brunost the other day about it being a sign that I should try some on my visit here. First try – am I doing it right?

  1. Looks great, OP! Brunost on jam is a classic. If you did enjoy this, I would advice you to try out the brunost from the “blocks” from the grocery store, the ones where you slice of pieces yourself. I find those to be tastier and less dry than the ones that come pre-sliced. This is also a great combination with waffles!

  2. I would recommend getting the unsliced version and cutting it with an ostehøvel for full effect.

  3. Id drop the jam, thin layer of bremykt butter, and two slices of brunost, as you probably see from the comments there are many different ways to enjoy it! 😀

  4. I highly recommend trying brunost on julebrød. (Bread with raisins.) No jam, but use plenty of margarine/butter. It combines amazingly with a cup of hot cocoa or a glass of cold milk.

  5. I will say, you are doing it right.
    Just eating brunost is right.
IMO, Brunost tastes best on fresh/ fresh baked wholemeal bread with Tine Smør.
    Plain and simple.
If you use it on a waffle, you ad some jam also.

  6. Freshly baked bread, good amount of butter, cover it with brunost and enjoy with a glass of ice cold milk on the side. Congrats, you’re now 100% Norwegian. Oh, BTW its not vegan.

  7. G35 is the “real” brunost, but fløtemysost is also pretty good, but has a milder taste 🙂

You get double extra points for the jam underneath tho!

  8. I’ve seen no one recommend this yet, and I might even get flak for this, but since I was taught this technique by a learned one in year 2 of primary, I’ll go ahead and spread the word. The world is ready.

Bread > butter > mayo > brunost > cucumber (cucumber optional. How optional? Very.)

But there it is, mayo and brunost, surprisingly delicious.

  9. A couple of slices rolled up in a potato lefse is pretty much what I’m living on in the run up to Christmas.

  10. I would recomand brunost + sugar (not much) on pancakes. First I thought it was a blasphemy when one of my guest put it on my freshly made pancake but she said it is good, and I should try. I did, I now, I am never making pancake without brunost anymore !!!

  11. Well, you are doing it right, however.. with a few tweeks the experience can be even better. Recommend doing it on wholegrain crisp bread instead of bread. You can also use a little more jam and do it on the top of the cheese, not under. Dont spread it out with a knife, just leave a few thick dashes on top . Also; use block cheese and høvel(you need to put in the work to deserve it). Pour a glass of hot chocolate or Tine Lett Melk on the side.

This way you will feel the full effect.

If you want to boost the effect; watch «dagsrevyen» while enjoying.

  12. The light is difficult to read, but:

    1. Jam goes above the cheese
    2. The only acceptable jam is strawberry

If the thing below _isn’t_ jam: Sit down and wait for a deportation patrol to reach your location.

  13. I’m really glad I can buy this on the US at sprouts, Trader Joe’s and fresh Market. When I first had it in undredal, Norway I fell I love. (Sp)
