Someone posted here earlier today about cyclists this week and the weather, so just wanted to share this gem from last Sunday night in Galway city. The fog as you can see was pretty thick, and this lunatic not only had absolutely no lights/hi viz on her whatsoever but she also decided to run that red light, until she seen the guards to her left and decided to backpedal to the line. She then decided once the lights went green that it was better to stay out to the far right and close to the oncoming traffic. You have every right to be on the road but please, for the love of God exercise caution!

  1. problem here, if the cyclist gets killed, it’ll be the driver at fault. cyclist in Ireland have no regard for the rules of the road.. they seem to think they’re above the law and its their right to use the road without considering other road users, regardless of you’re a pedestrian or a motorist

  2. The order of priority should be:

    Pedestrian
    Cyclist
    Public Transport

    Private car

Instead, we have this stupid mentality where the average car driver thinks they are gods with ultimate right of way.

  3. When I was younger I used to do this. My *reasoning?* if I can see the traffic then I know where to go to stay out of trouble. Now that I am older and driving a car this shit terrifies me. I want to scream at them, if only to make the realise the danger they are in.

  4. Sadly its far too common to see cyclists with no helmet, hi vis or lights! City, town or rural road they rarely bother to make themselves seen and be proactive about their own safety. Some might use lights but it’s not enough without hi vis. Cyclists and pedestrians day or night and in all seasons pay no heed to their surroundings totally oblivious earphones in…

Some cyclists definitely need to be fined for their behaviour on roads and footpaths. They are endangering themselves and others around them no consideration.

We all share the road and cyclists do belong on the road. I have encountered good cyclists! I do think more should be done to encourage helmet, lights and hi vis usage. The total lack of common sense by some cyclists is worrying..

  5. Couple things –

In a built up area with street lighting or if drivers have their lights on, doesn’t matter what colours cyclists wear. Can see em just as easily.

In adverse conditions, they should move to centre of the lane to take control of it

  6. She looks like she will progress to a scooter soon as she has the uniform. Also the poor driver that hits her as she is invisible will have to live with that. She is 1000% Darwinism at its finest

  7. I was about to say fair play to her for stopping at the red light and not being on the path but the realised she is only doing it because of the Garda car.

  8. I can see this cyclist perfectly. What’s the issue? Is it because they got in front of you so you couldn’t speed off is it?

  9. What an imbecile. I’m a cyclist and got hit by a car during a clear sunny day while wearing high Viz, flashing front and rear lights and was on a straight stretch of road.

This cyclist is playing russian roulette.

  10. It’s actually shocking how oblivious some cyclists are. Black clothes, no lights, headphones in and God bless my oblivious person. How on earth they not realise the danger they are in? Are they just putting 100% of safety into the hands of equally oblivious car drivers?

  11. This is “a” cyclist, who is a dickhead. Don’t be coming in here casting aspersions with your generalisations… 🙂

  12. Tough crowd here but it’s quite possible she was caught out by the conditions, or she may have been asked to work late, or is new to the country and didn’t realise how early it gets dark. Scumbags could’ve nicked her lights.

  13. My favourite is the one that came down the wrong side if the road towards me in the fog the other night. They had no light on the bike and were dressed entirely in black.

  14. A few of the usual braindead commenters in here claiming that no hiviz when cycling is fine.

Even more donkeys alluding to it being OK because it’s not illegal.

  15. Sitting outside Heuston station waiting for my wife last, 6 food delivery cyclist passed me. Not one light between them. All in dark clothing. One had reflective patches on his trousers. Idiots
