Yup, had the shite beaten out of me by 1 nun in particular. I wasn’t cheeky etc however I was a fidget, I had undiagnosed ADHD.
I remember once, we had just moved back from UK, I didn’t know what rhe angelus was or know any irish. I was beaten so bad I vomited on her, I was then beaten more. I had metre sticks broken on me.
My parents went to the guards, nothing was done, my dad went in and threatened her. I ended up running away from school repeatedly over it. This was between the ages of 8 and 12
Been reading these stories for so long now, that I just can’t bring myself to read them anymore.
Beyond sick what religious orders did to kids in this country.
A certain generation of us went through the 80s being slapped with the ‘board of education’ by the nuns or given the leather by the brothers…. It was a right of passage…
And we still allow religious organizations to own, administer and control schools. It needs to end, now.
The government still to this day refuses to separate church and state and enjoys their support.
I was told recently about many of my sister’s facing bullying and abuse by female teachers (some nuns some not). I would have assumed female teachers would me more matural and kind to kids.
We were poor growing up. I have one sister who was made stand in the rubbish bin facing the corner for over an hour for taking an apple an other student gave her from her lunch . It Totally humiliated her.
