Abuse in girls’ schools: ‘She beat the crap out of me for being cheeky. I was eight’

  1. Yup, had the shite beaten out of me by 1 nun in particular. I wasn’t cheeky etc however I was a fidget, I had undiagnosed ADHD.

I remember once, we had just moved back from UK, I didn’t know what rhe angelus was or know any irish. I was beaten so bad I vomited on her, I was then beaten more. I had metre sticks broken on me.

My parents went to the guards, nothing was done, my dad went in and threatened her. I ended up running away from school repeatedly over it. This was between the ages of 8 and 12

  2. Been reading these stories for so long now, that I just can’t bring myself to read them anymore.

Beyond sick what religious orders did to kids in this country.

  3. A certain generation of us went through the 80s being slapped with the ‘board of education’ by the nuns or given the leather by the brothers…. It was a right of passage…

  4. I was told recently about many of my sister’s facing bullying and abuse by female teachers (some nuns some not). I would have assumed female teachers would me more matural and kind to kids.

We were poor growing up. I have one sister who was made stand in the rubbish bin facing the corner for over an hour for taking an apple an other student gave her from her lunch . It Totally humiliated her.
