I do feel pretty below average when news like this is shared. Well, I am pretty below average apparently.
Gedaald precies, in 2017 was het 202.600 euro gemiddeld per Belg, het gemiddelde gezin bezat 469.000 euro.
Ah vastgoed werd niet meegerekend.

De gemiddelde Belg blijkt 10 keer meer op zijn boekske te hebben als ik, terwijl dezelfde gemiddelde Belg vind dat hij te veel belasting moet betalen voor mensen met een vervangingsinkomen. Ofwel zijn er enkele zeer rijke Belgen mee in het gemiddelde geslopen of wel moet de gemiddelde Belg dringend stoppen met klagen over die stoute zieken en werkelozen die hem te veel kosten.
Toch maar eens op statbel kijken waar ze dat gemiddelde hebben op gebaseerd.

What a deceptive article title , it’s the EU and not Europe ( we ain’t richer than the swedes or the Swiss or *insert city state here *)
People here act all smart by stating that average is not the same as median and that it can be skewed more easily. Of course, that is the case.
This, however, implies that it doesn’t reflect wealth in Belgium, which, in fact it does. It would be skewed if there were a lot of rich people here and a lot of poor people with no one in the middle. We do have a method for calculating this called the gini coefficient, which reflects how equally wealth is distributed in a country, and guess what, Belgium is one the most equal countries in the world.
The reason we are so wealthy (or more than others) is because (1) we are a Western European country (duh) where (2) home ownership and saving has been heavily encouraged by the government. This is and has not been the case in other countries, hence our wealth.
