Colonised??? Illegally invaded and occupied is a better way of putting it.
How is this even acceptable?
I feel sorry for all the Greeks that lost there homes.
Finally. A video explaining the conflict that isn’t a 50” YouTube short made by some British guy that did 5 collective minutes of research.
🤡
Greek island 🤡
The video is definitely far more detailed & goes in deeper than the boring surface-level summaries, but considering his
* previous content;
* the niche hyperbolic language he intermingles with actual facts;
* the topics he chose either not to mention, glance over with misleading levels of too few details, or hyper-focused on;
* **saying Makarios,** ***the head of the Church of Cyprus***, **was sympathetic to** ***socialism*** (literally cold war propaganda, the fuck?);
* literally the entirety of the final 41:28 to 47:03
* etc.;
the conclusions he’s trying to lead people towards don’t seem good-faith at all…
Was never Greek but oh well
Oh ok. Looks like I (along with many other native Turkish Cypriots) never existed! Again.
Did you know that we were once a Republic of Cyprus in 1960 with Greek President and Turkish Vice President.
That flag of Cyprus, is designed by a Turkish Cypriot.. colour for copper, olive branch for peace between communities after claiming freedom from the UK.
Did you know that a fascist group started attacking primarily to the Turkish and the British in the island and whichever Greeks who were against these fascists?
Did you know that then President – Makarios called out to all guarantor nations (Greece, Turkey, and UK) for help?
Did you know that my mother – born in Paphos in 1962 had to leave everything and move to Nicosia as their Greek neighbours were being threatened by EOKA as that to if they keep hiding them, they’ll get murdered too?
Inaction agains fascism put Cypriot Turks in danger first, then the Greek Cypriots. Turkey responded in 1974.. 11 years after the horror began. So stop acting like it all began in 1974.
We lost our identity. Stuck in North. Hated by our southern cousins, unrecognised by any country but Turkey and under constant direction of Turkey which is going down a cultural and political turmoil of shit.
We lost our family and homes too. WE ALL LOST.
If Annan plan had happened, Turkish army would have left the island 10 years ago, but Greek Cypriots voted No.
Do you know how much influence Turkey has on our parliament?? Yes we have one. Shocking right? Just trying to claim the last granule of identity after suffering from the fascist propaganda.
So here we go again.. the Turkish Cypriots don’t exist.. it is only the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish people who moved to the North in 1974.
And you know what videos like these cause? People in Turkey started to think there are no Turkish Cypriots too.. that our land is just an extension of theirs.
If your grandparents remember still ask them. But who bothers..
You know what.. this profile doesn’t even exist.
Nor my children will be. We will perish.
You’re very bold, calling the island “Greek” in r/Cyprus. They don’t tend to like that here.
