  1. Yes because Fire Safety Certificates are issued on the basis of plans and specifications submitted with an application. There is no legal basis to carry out inspections, to require them there would need to be a change in legislation by central government and a significant increase in the amount of Fire Prevention Officers employed by local authorities.

  2. The Fire Brigade are one of the most vocal institutions out there calling for better fire safety standards and pointing out the unsuitability of current high rise planning in terms of fire safety.

  3. Building inspections would never be carried out by the fire brigade. Usually the Architect would act as an assigned certifier for the units and then they’d sign it off based on their design / specs meeting the on site inspection results.

    But yes, they’d be busy.
