Will the working class strike back? – UnHerd

  1. Can’t help but feel this is a really naive commentary. Missing any discussion of changes in legislation around strikes, just this “people are more reasonable nowadays” lol. People voted for Heath because they thought the Tories were their social betters to be deferred to but obviously that had completely changed by 1979 and people voted for Thatcher because they suddenly identified with the Tory party aims, despite the massive strikes and social unrest in their term. How can you discuss any of this without discussing the social context of the Cold War and constant Red Scare propaganda from wall to wall in this period? For a professor of this period it just seems very superficial.

I am enjoying UnHerd’s attempt to shift away from constant reactionary IDW-style content still, great to see the media outlets I feel most responsible for our current state jumping ship.

  2. I think alot of other countries will be watching the UK actions and potentially helping the UK Government push back on the workers, if it works here, it will work in other countries

  3. It depends what they have to lose. Most working class folk don’t have time to even thinking about any type of “strike back”. They’re too busy just trying to make ends meet. Usually the malcontents are either well paid or have plenty of time on their hands. Given there isn’t high unemployment right now then you don’t have a lot of people with free time. So right now, no, nothing will happen.

  4. Wish they would. This government is attempting to show the world that the working classes can be beaten easily & if they achieve it other bent governments will follow suit…
