Lets rush out some news on a small study so that everyone dismisses the seriousness of a global virus so we can “just get back to normal”
F*** I hate the media!
YAWN
This is not “breaking news”. Just another journo squeezing a headline out of everything we don’t yet know about Omicron. Clearly the wait and see approach doesn’t suit the media.
Other variants have also been mild for most, its risky for older people or clinical groups. I think its the risk of vaccine evasion they need to focus on as this is the primary risk factor here.

Zero deaths from Omicron. It has low virulence and should be the end of the pandemic, but politicians and their reactions are now a much bigger risk than the virus. See the EU’s new proposal for mandatory vaccination with the threat of fines and imprisonment just as things are looking better.
Another classic example of the media pandemic coverage. A pendulum of “everything’s catastrophically bad” in one article to “oh actually its fine” in another.
And I bet they’d have the nerve to call this confusion and shit-stirring they are peddling “balanced journalism”.
I couldn’t find this WHO official saying this. The only report from Reuter mentioning mild disease was from Nov 28th citing doctors reports.
In fact they warned against using the term ‘Mild’ [https://www.scmp.com/news/world/africa/article/3157697/coronavirus-more-omicron-variant-cases-pop-world-rushes-learn](https://www.scmp.com/news/world/africa/article/3157697/coronavirus-more-omicron-variant-cases-pop-world-rushes-learn)
Fake news in the Sky? expected no less
Until it has been verified, all those journalists can quote someone’s somebody.
Remember SARS outbreak in Asia, it was probably 10 times more deadly than COVID, and yet it killed a lot less people than COVID because it was less transmissible. Omnicron is proofed to be more infectious and transmissible than Delta, if the same logic applies, we have a reason to be causious.
So we should roll back these restrictions by tomorrow morning.
Most covid cases are mild for all variants, so this doesn’t mean much
Only a small percentage actually get seriously ill from covid. My whole family and most of my colleagues caught covid last January and we all either had no syptoms at all or incredibly mild symptoms (headache, felr a bit tired). We only knew because of test and trace, wouldn’t even have known i had covid otherwise.

I recommend this Doctors channel. He explains everything in layman’s terms and doesn’t have an agenda.
Another reminder that there are some that literally want this to go on forever.
Its like when your driving down the motorway at 40mph, and the branch of a tree rustles up ahead so you emergency stop, have a discussion with ONLY the back 2 passengers in the car about how devastating the potential damage could be, then decide who to send up on foot to investigate by means of ~~vote~~ popularity contest. Ofcourse the passenger goes. The other three will chill in the car. A week later the pmuppet returns with news that the road and the tree and the car is still here and we should continue.
