Credit Suisse launches lawsuit against Zurich finance blog

  1. IP and Lukas Hässig have a constant boner for CS (and other banks) and sometimes it gets really tiresome. It’s largely tabloid polemics and rumors, but there’s often also a lot of hard truths below the bait. That’s why people keep coming back to IP.

Instead of suing this guy (and he is constantly fighting in court so he’s used to it), CS would do better to finally stabilize their business and stop providing him with ammo. They’re still bleeding customers and money, the share price is near an all-time low, top brass is quitting, and their “new strategy” is failing to convince anybody.

I was a customer and shareholder for 30 (!) years and I quit. Because they didn’t want me. They don’t know who they want. This bank in its current form can get fucked.

  2. Dumb lawsuit. However, this caught my eye:

    > In June, the blog caused a storm when it ran a story saying Boston-based State Street was said to be planning a CHF23 billion ($25 billion) takeover bid for Credit Suisse, based on a single source. While both banks later denied the story, following the initial report and press coverage of it Credit Suisse shares rose 12 per cent and State Street stock fell 5 per cent.

That could possibly be illegal (at least in America, surely in Europe as well). If the blog is engaging in market manipulation, that’s the real story here.

  3. I’d rarely take the side of a big bank… but if the other party is Inside Paradeplatz… well, then I might have to reconsider.

Just read the comments in a couple of articles there and you suddenly start hoping that Putin will wipe out humanity with nukes :p

  4. I love IP. What LH achieved with it is imo (from a journalistic POV) absolutely astonishing. Just the clickrate on his articles are crazy. Of course not everything is great, e.g. I don‘t know why that schmock Beni Frenkel is allowed to publish there. His articles are usually non-relevant and full of errors.

LH has also uncovered some controversial things (Vasella etc).

I think it is clear that the CS is out to destroy IP with their constant legal battles.

And the current lawsuit just shows the challenges involved with digital journalism.

  5. IP used to be a great source for actual leaks. Nowadays it’s just trying to remain relevant by being provocative based on rumours.
