Sometimes I do think what a place this was when the ice age revealed the landmass which is inside the borders of Finland now.
Probably the people back then saw land as very promising and fertile for humans to dwell in. Lots of seals, fish, forest animals to hunt, not a lot of people since velliperseet can’t stand the cold.
Besides winter was never active time for hunter gatherers, so mostly they would chill in their small communities through the heart of winter and then become more active again during the spring. There wasn’t really reasons back then to spend your energy during winter as we have now. They knew back then how to prepare for winter, where to stay to have source of food nearby etc.
The dude in the comic probably had more brown fat to survive the cold with ease, better memory , better muscle structure to survive, better blood flow in the limbs, so for him this was not such a bad place.
She’ll be thankfull when global warming makes the equatorial regions unlivable.
Reminds me of a similar one done in Australia except it was
“Fuck it’s hot”, “fuck it’s cold” and “fuck it’s flooded” ” fuck it’s on fire”
“Worlds happiest country”
In United States, it seems that there’s a concentration of Finnish-descendent population in Minnesota.
Travel through the huge expanses of land, nice climates and easily arable land and finally settle down at the rocky frozen forests. Yeeeup, sounds about right.

Nemi is the best….
I hate Nemi.
Mostly because they inexplicably started syndicating it to a daily newspaper in London back in the 00s, and either something was lost in translation or it just generally made no sense, so it’s presence would unreasonably bother me.
I’m finnish and I can confirm this ….
Blame the damn seals
Dear fins I currently live in Dubai, the alcohol is cheaper here. Want to swap places???
This is somewhat innaccurate picture of the Finnish history. In the 1200’s only about 65.000 persons lived in Finland, and mostly they lived around Turku in South-Western Finland, where the climate is relatively mild. Here in Helsinki region it is even bit milder. This Southern Coastal region from The Karelian Isthmus to Turku is relatively close to the Central European climate zone. Good place for agriculture too.
In the 1600’s Finns started to move to Northern Finland (and Sweden). The climate started to be warmer little by little after very cold centuries.
In the late 1800’s Finland’s population grew significantly. Finns were allowed to buy cheap grain from Russia and industrialization brought money to the farmers who partly worked for the wood industry as woodcutters.
Nowadays the good sides in Finland are the level of prosperity and the beauty of the country. Worklife is pretty much nonsense, the culture is starting to be more weird after every year, but on the other hand this new culture we have is not actually “Finland” anymore. The story of Finland was amazing. This new lunacy we have does not belong to that story, because it is something outside the Finnish culture.
Because all the other places were already taken.
