Tories ‘failing women’ as gynaecology waiting times treble in a decade | Women’s health

  1. Yup. Been waiting since February for a consultation to get sterilised. When I asked roughly how long it would take for me to be seen, the poor receptionist laughed and told me I would be waiting “years”. Saying that though, I got my smear test (after a 3 month wait to be given an appointment for that), and got my result within 2 weeks, so that’s something. Still leaves a lot to be desired.

  2. The backlog is just too great for the remaining staff to get through. It will cost lives but there is little that can be done in the short term. Recruiting doctors and nurses will take years, as will creating the wards and hospitals needed to deal with the backlog. The NHS treading water is optimistic right now, it is sadly drowning and the Tories have their foot in its head.

  3. I had a period that lasted a continuous 7 months. Took 3 weeks to sort out once I was actually seen by a gynaecologist. Made those 6 months of hell feel even more dehumanising.

  4. My cousin has literally had a rash on her breast and had 3 appointments over a few months and only after the third did they refer her to a specialist. When she told me, I couldn’t believe; isn’t breast cancer one of the “biggest killers of women”. If anything is happening with my brain, heart, titties or genitals, I want someone to treat it like the serious shit it could be.

  5. I see post after post about the Tories failing everyone and everything yet, come the next election, they will undoubtedly win again.

Why doesn’t the frustration ever reflect in the results on election night?!

  6. I’m still waiting to hear back about an MRI regarding my poss deep penetrating endometriosis and possibly adenomyosis from the specialist in my area.

I was seen quite quickly for a laparoscopy back at the end of January but I suspect it’s because they feared cancer and didn’t want to frighten me before they knew for certain. I’ve been experiencing symptoms for over 10 years and repeatedly fobbed off by female doctors no less.

The lap confirmed endo but as I keep getting painful and debilitating ovarian cysts that cause pain all up the left side of my body, from my groin to my diaphragm, and around the left edge of my diaphragm back and front as the fluid irritates that area. A keto diet seems to keep my symptoms at bay for now but I dread ovulation in case I get another cyst.
