Looks like the Tory plan to defund the police is working as expected.
It’s the same as you’re seeing with nursing, paramedics, teachers, etc.
10+ years of obscene budget cuts and no pay rises for public services. Workload through the roof; relentless working with no breaks, time off being cancelled, helping other services because they too have been drastically cut, etc. There’s only so much people can take.
Thank you Tories, thank you.
– Below inflation pay rises for years now
– Massive understaffing coupled with increasing workloads leading to officer burnout
– Inexperienced workforce, so those with experience are left teaching an office full of newbies whilst managing their own workload
– Increasing mistrust and animosity from the general public, leading to a largely hostile work environment.
– Increasing pressure from government, the media, and the general public to tackle perceived misconduct, leading to overreaches by professional standards departments and a culture of having to step on eggshells at work, causing low morale.
– Lack of investment, meaning people aren’t equipped with necessary skills or equipment, such as tasers, bodycams, working vehicles, fit for purpose office space, etc
Is it really any surprise that policing is facing mass resignation? More and more is asked of police officers, who are under ever-increasing scrutiny, and then paid an ever decreasing real-terms wage. This is a problem that will only increase, both in Scotland and around the nation, without significant increases to police budgets and pay.
Let’s see if the media blame this on the nurse’s strike 😂
I’m not suggesting that they are wrong in what they are saying but why compare the figures from Jan-Oct with Apr-Mar? How difficult would it be to tell us how many left between Jan and Oct in the last few years so we can see the exact change?
Where is the incentive to stay? Under paid. Under valued. Overworked. More expectations put on uniform at every single turn. Zero welfare. Cops are finding jobs with better work/life balance on offer at ease. Policing in Scotland is broken for good.
This is a 5.8% turnover of staff. The UK average is around 15%
This does not seem like news.
BREAKING! AN INDUSTRY SECTOR ONLY HAS 1/3 NORMAL WORKER TURNOVER.
If the police service cannot cope with a below-average staff turnover, then they must be mismanaged.
If there’s a hole in the bucket, you fix the hole instead of keep filling the bucket with water
What happens when the growing hoardes of hungry people realise that they can steal to feed their families with impunity?
How are you going to continue arresting people for naughty jokes with no rozzers?
And since Scotland essentially has some
Of the worst self defence laws in Europe your even more fucked lol
Dont blame them, who would want to be a police officer in modern Britain !
Who would be surprised when you deal with the worst people in society on a daily basis for a pittance, over scrutinised for every little thing, shit ass shift patterns that mess with your physical health and listen to stupid people moan at you non-stop. Nope, fuck dat.
“The nurses are striking, so we’re looking at changing the law to make it illegal for them to strike.”
Police who are already blocked by law from striking are quitting in droves.
I wonder if politicians will see the connection?
Won’t be long till the tories announce privatisation of the police force, G4S and Serco will be prime companies undoubtedly wining the tender process
Isnt policing devolved?
You can’t blame Westminster for everything, it’s the Scottish Governments’ issue on how they use their funding and do their public services.
Just cause the block grant provides a large majority of funding, you can’t blame Westminster for not funding your police then saying how much better independence will be because you lot decide to spend your funding in free prescriptions, unis and other public services we just don’t have in England.
You can either blame Westminster for all the ills and allow it to take credit for providing you with better services and perks or do the same for the Scottish Government. Not both.
It’s fucking click bait headline.
Scotland changed thencritera required for police to retire and some took them up on the offer to retire esrly.
Scotland also has significantly more police per capita than everywhere else in UK.
Just because some retired doesn’t mean we are in crisis. It means we are loosing part of our police force.
I’m also willing to bet that even with these losses we still have a higher per capita amount of police.
Don’t these guys get paid pretty well? I always get told to sign up cause they do
The amount of police that put there life on the line everyday.. who put themselves at risk of never seeing their family again.. or not knowing what the day or night will bring to keep us safe… yet people higher up in the police.. such as inspectors, chief inspectors.. do fuck all to support emotionally and physically the men and women who work hours on end to keep us safe… no wonder they are walking out.
Shit pay. Shit benefits. Shit pension… only way to survive is overtime..
My friend just got rejected at the vetting because he had a speeding conviction 7 years ago. He was doing over 100 but he was also rushing someone to the hospital.
Seemed a bit much considering the filth they let into the English police these days 🤣
Thank god this country didn’t have “All cops are Bastards” BLM morons
Tory or SNP issue?
Genuine question- I don’t know enough to know if policing is a devolved function.
I think they want to investigate crime and not mean tweets and people being “misgendered”
‘We just can’t do it anymore’- the working population of England. I agree entirely, everything feels fucked.
Maybe, just maybe, not requiring recruits to pay for their training would slightly help with numbers. Just a thought.
