Most opinions on a United Ireland are unrealistic to be fair
Nobody knows how/if it will actually go
Or maybe we should be paid to take it on?
People always see getting the north back as some sort of revenge. They never think that unionists might still live there and never think that they might have to pay something towards it for years to come.
I’ve said it before but people aren’t ready to pay more tax or give up the most frivolous of shit to help save the planet why the fuck would it be realistic to think they’d do the same for the North?
Being honest, If a vote was taken in ROI tomorrow, I don’t think it would pass.
There needs to be a complete roadmap proposal put in place before the majority of people on either side could take this seriously.
Finances, public services, educations, welfare, tax, policing, healthcare, law in general and implementation, precedent upkeep etc etc etc.
Anybody who has decided to vote in favour without having the complete answer to those questions is largely an idiot.
Are people really taking ‘doesn’t benefit us financially don’t want it ‘ stance? Imagine the shoe was on the other foot and southern Ireland was in Britain. Selfishness and greed are a disease.
I hate this narrative.
The North is viewed as a weight around anyone’s neck who has it.
The reason the North is suppose expensive to the British Government is they do fuck all to invest it, they just throw money at it to keep them quiet.
My theory is they don’t want to invest heavily in the North as they see unifcation as likely so there is no point.
The North will expensive short term but long term it could be quite a boom.
The Republic as it stand is half a country but with reunification we get a population increase of almost 2 million, so lets say 1.5 million more workers paying tax.
We would also be getting some of the biggest cities on the Island.
Belfast is the second biggest city on the Island and in the top 10 biggest cities in the island of Ireland the north has half.
Tourism is another factor, some of the most beautiful places in Ireland are in the North.

People moan about the public service jobs but I would imagine a lot of them are unnecessary and are public bloat, when those people retire or quiet, don’t replace them.
Another issue people moan about is the NHS, the Tories are doing a fantastic job of destroying the NHS in England and the one in the North is struggling heavily.
In a few years you might see people crossing the border to pay for Health Care in the Republic.
My only fears with the North is the DUP and other wack job unionists will have a say in how my life is run and the possibility of a shamble like Brexit.
I would like to see a detailed plan of integration with hopefully offers from the US and EU to help pay for it.
USA has an interest in the North since the troubles and the EU would probably love to put the political nonsense of the North to bed for ever.
Citizens Assembly -> Thought-out Options and none of this trickle of shite for 20 years please.
A United ireland like a United Germany would be stronger and better for all. Sure there would be a short term cost but long term it would be better.
It’s not all about money. It should be about the people who were left behind in 1921
The cost would be enormous and we already pay shed loads of tax here. You also get loads and loads of people who support terrorism, entire areas filled with unemployable people that are more or less run by former terrorists and truckloads of people with massive chips on their shoulders.
Give it a few decades until all the IRA/uvf/UDa/etc have died out.
Supporters of a continued Partition are often self pricks
The Irish Times has been going all out against a united Ireland lately
There’s a plethora of issues with unification to consider. What happens to the PSNI, Hmrc, Education for kids in the middle of GCSEs as junior cert is much more rigorous and a different curriculum, pensions, benefits, currency etc, royal mail they aren’t just going to hand over the vans to an post and go off you go lads paint them green, public sector pensions in the North, 900000 unionists who will never ever class themselves as primarily “Irish”. People in the North won’t like suddenly having to pay for GP appointments and huge amount more for prescriptions rather than the 10 quid a month they currently pay. So much to think about before we even get onto the security situation.
