I hope a lot of good people will find jobs in Dublin Bus and my bus will finally start arriving on time and not be a ghost.

  1. Probably around €600-700ish after tax but a lot of responsibility big vehicle narrow Dublin streets in heavy traffic and dealing with scroues

  2. The pay might be good, but the way they expect lives to be paused is a joke. Just like any job they dump on the high performers while the mediocre boys skate through.

  3. I see they’ve changed marketing tactics after the god awful “get thanked for a living” ads. Now this actually means something to people out there.

  4. That’s incredibly shit pay. How is anyone supposed to drive a Dublin Bus if they can’t afford to live in Dublin?

  5. There are a shitload of people defending paying Dublin Bus drivers a wage, that they can’t afford to rent in Dublin on.

  6. I would take the money to drive this particular route but I don’t think it’s enough for other routes

  7. Coming from someone who’s currently a bus driver with Go-Ahead –

The pay is damn good with DB but there are caveats:

The new contracts they’re offering are absolutely abysmal in terms of working conditions: you come in as a “spare man”, this means you sit in the canteen and wait for someone to call in sick. If you don’t know the route you’re being called onto, the response is “you will by the end of the day”

I would personally go out of my mind driving a DB route – it’s nothing but stop/start/stop/start endlessly. Most of the stops can be seen from each other.

The abuse you get is simply not worth any money imo

The reason they have free travel is because you have to make your own way to your bus. That could mean going from Donnybrook, Harristown or Summerhill to anywhere within Dublin. You don’t get to use staff cars, you must travel by bus to your duty – you are not paid until you log in on the ticket machine.
Parking is paid at your expense if you can’t get hold of a space within a depot.

If I remember correctly the contracts are meant to be nights – Thursday to Sunday.
Having spoken to some current employees on this contract they’ve not done a single night shift, and many are working other days because of how short DB are of day drivers. So if the shift pattern is your biggest draw, don’t count on it

  8. Dublin is cursed.
    €815 per week x 52weeks = €42,380 pre tax
    €42,380 x 80% = €33,904* post tax

*That original €42,380 is higher than the HAP income limit, so… also pay your unsubsidized rent for 12 months at €1,700 per month for a mediocre studio flat for one person. So now minus that €20,400 of yearly rent from that post tax income and you’re left with €13,504 for wank money for the year. Mind you, this also doesn’t factor in the decreased quality of life after killing your nerves driving through the city for 40 hours each week or lost time. Plus pay for your own medical. And be at risk of thrombosis and heart disease. Why?

    Compare:

    Dole @ the new €220 x 52 weeks = €11,440 pre tax
Guess what? Tax exempt due to low earnings.
    So also €11,440 post tax
+Free medical card (free treatment, almost free medication)
+Homeless HAP subsidy which will only take ~%15 of your weekly dole to completely pay for your €1,900 rent (parent and child, spouse optional)
    +Free tv license
    +Various free vouchers
+Complete free time to pursue hobbies or spend time with your kids
+Zero stress and not having to avoid squashing scrotes with your gigantic bus

I don’t understand why the taxpayers allow themselves to be grifted so hard, lol. By the way, I am in the second category. The government floods me with free everything, I don’t understand how this is made possible. Everyone in my social circle is in the same boat. I feel for those working themselves to death to keep all this going. I’d imagine eventually they’ll cut us off, but nope, now there is talks about UBI, at a higher rate. It feels good to not hear an alarm clock when I wake up.

  9. It’s a hard job, I can see why so many don’t want to deal with it. I have seen such poor treatment of drivers that I think it would put most people off from applying.

  10. This is how all jobs should be advertised, instead of tiptoeing around salary expectations. How much are you paying me?!
