I recently learnt that it’s a major hub for Lidl
It will be interesting to see the race between Koper, Rijeka and Trieste in the future.
Croatian government (and private sector) has finally taken serious steps towards giving Rijeka its former glory, with terminal being expanded, direct highway connection being built and railway access is planned to be modernized.
[Maersk got the concession](https://vecernji.hr/vijesti/koncesija-pripala-mocnom-maersku-i-ppd-u-plan-je-prestici-kopar-za-nekoliko-godina-1491722) for 50 years and the plan is to get to one million TEU in the first two years.
When you add to it Croatian LNG terminal near Rijeka, on island Krk, and planned [new yacht marine by Lürssen](https://www.novilist.hr/rijeka-regija/rijeka/evo-kako-ce-izgledati-nova-mega-marina-na-porto-barosu-donosimo-sve-detalje-plana-aci-ja-i-lurssena/) in Rijeka, hopefully Rijeka has a bright future.
But hopefully Koper will also continue to grow in the future. (I’m not that emotionally invested for Trieste tbh)
So Koper is somehow bigger than both Rijeka and Trieste? Wow.
