And show me those numbers without zero hour contracts?
While this definitely sounds good, I’d like to know whether ornot all of the employed are earning enough money to live happy lives.
How many people can I infuriate by calling this a brexit benefit ??
In the past would stay at home parents be considered unemployed?
It’s now mostly a nessesity for both parents to work, that will tip the balance compared to the previous generations that had mostly single earner households.
As always, the devil is in the details, and in this case, the definitions.
You are unemployed ONLY if you meet a number of criteria: you must not hold any job, paying or not and any amount of hours (from 0 upwards); you must have been actively looking for work in the last 4 weeks (this has its own set of criteria, being that you must be on an official government job seeking scheme, which forbids people with over $16,000 total life savings), not be retired, not be disabled, and a few other minor categories.
So if you were retrenched and have $16,000 or more, you are not “unemployed”, despite being unemployed.
If you are volunteering, you are not “unemployed”, despite receiving no income.
If you work 1 hour a week, you are “employed”.
So a much better comparison is to count how many people have 37.5hr/wk jobs, vs. those who do not. I suspect that this will also be at a “historic low”.
Ah yes. Never had lower unemployment and yet government can’t afford anything at all that benefits the public. Like NHS wages. Which is it because I call bullshit on both.
But despite people holding down 2-3 jobs they still can’t afford the fucking rent.
So are my wages but my bills are historically high…
himm, not sure that explains why I have been looking for a role for 8 months straight
Because economic inactivity is at an all time high, since UC isn’t worth the hassle. Underemployment is also thriving in Britain
Eugh.
Now go look at what counts as being ’employed’. IMO unless you are doing at LEAST part time 17.5 hours, you’re not really employed, you just have a hobby that gives you pocket money.
