First of all. Men and Women have to be equal by law. Thats not the case in Switzerland at the moment. Military + Parental leave as an example.

Should maybe have XX and XY as choice so no issues around anymore
One reason probably is the ongoing inequality in the constitution and law. You could easily choose with the third option if a law applies on you or not.
I two particular subjects come to mind:
1) widow‘s annuity is different fir men and women
2) compulsory military service is different between men and women
Maybe there are others.
It’s because too many people can’t behave.

Maybe we should stop naming the genders but use chromosomes instead. Same can be applied to Olympic games. No more discussions necessary, no harrassement against trans people. Or am I too naive?

If there were 53 comments, chances are high it didnt get locked because of the topic, but because people couldn’t be civil with each other. This happened sometimes if there is a polarizing topic and people start to fling shit at each other.
It’s easy. Military, why wouldn’t all men just go with the third option. It saves a bunch of time and money while having negligible consequences.

It‘s just completely lost to me why something like gender should appear on an ID. It‘s personal preference, like religion or favorite vegetable. Just erase it completely.
There’s no parliament ruling. It’s a report from the federal council, readily available to read in full in D and F, for now. All it means is a few members of the parliament wanted to know how a third option would work. The council’s negative stance is the least interesting 2 lines of the whole report, in my opinion, and has no real relevance for now, other than vaguely mirroring a sentiment that might be found in the parliament too.
Because the mods can’t take no for an answer, and nobody wants this.

Simple: If you are asked this question, is because the one asking it wants an answer. “Prefer not to respond” is not an answer. If the one asking this question does not want an answer, he would not have asked it in the first place.
This is only about biological sex and no, there are no more sex than two. And if sometimes there’s both at the same time, well, tick both boxes I guess. Simple as.
This discussion reminds me of the discussions about homosexuality in the 90s. It would be nice if doesn’t take 30 years for trans people the be accepted in our society but looking at the comments here we still have a long way to go.
