Turkey’s foreign minister said on Thursday that Sweden was not even “halfway” through fulfilling commitments made to secure Ankara’s support for its NATO membership, despite appreciation for the steps thus far taken.

  1. Its funny how Turkey dictates the qualifications when rest of NATO including USA whos military budget alone is double the budget of other allies combined, already accepted Finland and Sweden.

  2. Can we just throw out turkey?

They stop interupting important decisions and they stop threttening greece

  3. Lets pull the application and end this joke. There was a thread in the swedish subreddit this week about the turkish statement. Its clear that the swedish people tired ass fuck of the applikation process and its loosing support.

  4. Can you kick Turkey out ? No because of NATO rules. Europe needs its own army to protect itself. Neither Turkey nor US belongs to Europe and it’s defence.

  5. Well obviously, Erdogan is gonna milk this until June 2023, when the presidential election takes place in Turkey.

Greece will also be getting territorial threats until then.

  6. In Finland no one cares about this thing anymore. I just noticed that the media outlets don’t speak about this anymore.

  7. when looking for faults use mirror not telescope. i have a swedish friend whose first and last name i mistook for turkish, and a few years later he called me to say he met a turk with exactly the same first and last name

  8. It’s a shame that he already seems to making sure he can’t lose the next election.

  9. Looking from Finland, this debacle with Turkey has been so depressing to look at.

Finland IMO always used to have a friendly attitude towards Turkey. Happy to visit, friendly towards the Turkish community in Finland, supported Turkey’s EU ambitions where others wouldn’t.

Their reputation has been UTTERLY decimated over this year. People who’ve visited for holidays every year no longer will. If they’re willing to put our security at risk, at a time of crisis, over horse-trading like this — what use is a “friend” like this? The damage to the relations is massive and will take a generation or more to repair.

  10. Turkey out of NATO. NATO army must be in Artsakh instead to defend it from Azeri forces and reinstate it as Armenian territory

  11. It’s a joke. Sweden should just withdraw its application in protest and become utterly hostile to anything Turkey wants to do with the EU or European trade in future. This is putting people’s lives at risk.

It renders NATO rather pointless tbh. Seems it’s just yet another political tool for authoritarian governments to bash people around though abuse of veto powers.

  12. Yea the last 50% of Sweden’s candidacy readiness will come only when the US agrees to sell F16´s to Erdogan.
