Yes, Poland can actually be beautiful! Although Wałbrzych is arguably in Germany (Waldenburg, Schlesien).

It’s starting to become a really nice place. We’ve still got a lot to catch up to, but there’s been a lot of positive changes in a last decade. My dad showed me pictures from ’98 that he found online and honestly we forgot that it did really look like that (grim, dark and “coaled”).
I grew up in that city in the 80’s. Haven’t visited back in over 25 years. It does look pretty on the pictures.
