Go out in flames or fade away? Rightwing Twitter rant rekindles dilemma for ageing rockers

  1. It’s not even a debate. Do you enjoy someone’s work and want to hear their new stuff live and on record? Then listen to it and go to their gigs. Do you not enjoy their new material or performances? Then listen to something else, and don’t go to their gigs. Simple.

  2. How is age relevant? Take Phil Anselmo – been suspect views and behaviour for decades, nothing to do with his age.

How can someone’s 50s be too old to play music as well? Why would you not do a career you’re physically and mentally capable of, keeps you active, have spent years building expertise in and still feel comfortable doing? The hell? The article writer clearly doesn’t listen to much music, because a lot of legendary jazz musicians were still doing it at a late age, same for classically-trained musicians from places like India. Metallica and Smashing Pumpkins have put out albums that were successful and appreciated amongst their desired fanbases, despite being 50+. As a young person, it’s really nice to see an older person still going at it, full of energy.

    What a non-article.
