The weirdest thing just happened in SuperValu. I handed over my superscan handset and the lady scanned it into the till. Four croissants and a donut that I didn’t buy appeared on the list.
It was only that I looked at my total just before handing it over that I noticed. I know my total was €41.90 because I had a €7 off €40 voucher. When I got to the till I saw I was at €39.90 so I scanned the “love sweets” you can see on the receipt just before the extra items to get me over the 40 mark.
The lady voided them but seemed totally unphased by it. She suggested that sometimes things get scanned accidentally but that hardly happened between me handing it over and her scanning it into the till.
Is this a common thing or some kind of bizarre once off? How many people have not noticed this happening?

I’ve never seen the scanners in Tesco with phantom items, is there any chance you left the scanner thing unattended and some chancer added their items to your list?
