I am moving to brussels in February and I am currently looking for an apartment to rent.
I had a virtual visit and call for an apartment through this agency today and I really like the apartment.
they want me to fill out some forms and send 500€ to show that I am actually interested, they will then show my application to the landlord and if they accept the 500 will be deducted from my first rent payment. if I am not accepted they will send the 500 back.
Is this agency trustworthy? Is this normal in Belgium?

For the love of God do not do this, even if they are a legit company.
Era is one of the biggest real estate collectives in the country. If they can’t be trusted in a matter like this. Nobody could.
It isn’t unsual for them to do this since in big cities people often like to book a viewing for fun or they don’t show. This is some guarantee that people are legit interested.
Very sketchy.. I advise you to call another ERA office and ask them if this is a normal procedure
