Britain braces for rolling power cuts: Arctic blast leaves households on the brink of outages and blackouts as officials blame ‘WFH’ Met Office for failing to predict the severity of our latest big freeze

  1. Ah, so it’s not years of energy mismanagement and closing backup supplies, but that scourge of Britain, people working from home.

  2. Amazing, they’re blaming work from home policies. There’s always an excuse, it’s never their fault.

I feel bad for anyone who either didn’t have the ability to prepare, or were naïve enough to believe the Tories wouldn’t cause blackouts this winter. I’ll have to let my neighbours know they can charge their stuff off my battery.

  3. I don’t think that there is much that these fuckknuckles cannot try to blame on someone else, unsurprisingly daily wail readers will believe them.

  4. This is the same government that assured us just a couple of months ago that there would absolutely definitely not be any power cuts.

I’m pretty sure the met office supercomputer is still in the office.

  5. actually thats quite clever because the daily wail really hates people working from home and it allows the tories to attack people from home and experts and to blame someone else for their cockup as well too.

  6. Oh yes, all those poor cold countries like Poland , norway, Sweden, all experiencing regular power cuts because BIG FREEZE (in reality, they mean -10°c which is fuck all) comes in and magically cuts energy off.
What the fuck has 12 years of Tories done to UK. I wish I listened to Corbyn earlier

  7. Lmao this hit piece on WFH. Ignore all the gas storage the tories siphoned off for a quick sale. It’s going to be mild and wet over Xmas, so the big freeze will have passed for now.

  8. Great to know that there’s a scapegoat lined up!

I was genuinely worried we were going to have to hold the government to account over this one /s

  9. Arctic blast? Isn’t this a bit out of date? It already happened and there were no rolling blackouts. We’re going to get a blast of warm air today.

  10. Blame all the things!! (Except our Tory masters who have been wrecking the country for the past 12 years – they are just awesome)

  11. If you went on the Met Office YouTube channel (which I really recommend- they do a lot of very detailed forecasts on there) before the cold spell they were talking about the uncertain on the modelling.

At first there was something like a 70% chance that the cold would last only a few days, with warmer air pushing in from the south. There was a smaller chance that the northerly flow would remain.

As time went one, the case for the latter scenario increased until it happened. The point is, the met office had made the prolonged cold period a very clear possibility from quite early on and anyone who needed to should have been aware.

The balls up is from the government, not the met office. They’ve done great.

  12. This could have been partly avoided if we’d passed emergency legislation in March to allow for steamrolling of local planning for Solar and Wind Farms btw

  13. The beauty of if us they cannot really blame anyone else as they’ve been in power for 12 years.

I am not aware of any strategic energy policy, strategic economic policy, strategic health policy, or strategic anything else really.
Nothing these fuckers have done these past 12 years as really benefited the general UK population.
This is just an example of another mess made by the tories where they’re desperately trying to blame everyone else other than the aforementioned strategic failures.

  14. Is this true or just another pessimistic UK article that Brits like to click? I been hearing about blackouts in the UK for a while but yet to happen

  15. Are we a third world country, because this sort of thing is what Id expect to be happening in a third world country.

  16. Power cuts are likily to happen between 4 to 8pm after most people are getting back to home from their office jobs anyway…when their is no solar and everyone is putting the oven in for dinner and warming their homes up for the evening.

  17. What a load of bollocks. The UK (with no serious gas storage) survived this prolonged cold snap during some of the darkest days of the year.

Just a few weeks ago there were loads of LNG tankers waiting to offload.

  18. Classic Daily Mail – don’t actually interrogate why a bad thing is happening, just blame it on one of the things you were already mad about.
