  1. Yeah, it would be really nice if we didn’t get every bit of policy leaked to the Indo before it is formally announced.

  2. Ah lads. Everything the govt does, every communication system the state has is open to other govts. GCHQ probably use us as a training example: newbie level 1. We should be more worried about media and politicians who are open to………..persuasion. I’ll settle for persuasion.

  3. So we’ve known of security flaws in mobiles phones, particularly microphones and cameras for what? A decade? Longer?

Why the fuck haven’t mobiles been banned from sensitive government meetings already?

  4. So he’s sat in Cabinet as the second most senior person in Government, absolutely wracked with worry over the security of the nation being compromised by this security flaw, and _didn’t think to say anything about it for two and a half years_?

  5. > A Government source said it was the norm across European governments to not bring electronic devices into the room due to the risk of bugging by foreign powers. Mobile electronic devices can be hacked into to listen to confidential discussions.

I’m not surprised at all. People still seem to think Ireland is some backwater small irrelevant nation of no interest to foreign powers.

We’re the premier destination globally for storing data which is more valuable than oil these days with tech and AI. That alone is enough to get us on most people’s radar.

  6. Astonishing this wasn’t always the case. Who ever thought a dozen internet connected devices with microphones and cameras would be ok in any security sensitive meeting?

  7. There are no hot ones for you to make out with Leo 🤣 no one is going to film you there

  8. No clue why this is a big deal, you don’t want info leaking out that shouldn’t, likewise, people should be able to voice something in a cabinet meeting without it being immediately broadcast, out of context, to journalists around the country.

Likewise, there is actually a very real security risk surrounding phones and their vulnerability, especially for.government ministers.

  9. hello?!?! he literally gave state secrets to a “doctor freind” of his and now the oul’ iphone is the problem? some politians actually make my blood boil

  10. The phrase “too little too late” is very applicable. This should have been a security concern 20 years ago, now it’s a security failure

  11. I remember I went to see the cabinet for school ages ago and all the tds would whip out their phones on instagram when they weren’t on camera
