Trafalgar Square Christmas tree: Norway refuses to pay to replace ‘anaemic’ gift

  1. it’s kind of sad that replacing it was brought up in the first place. Someone more knowledgeable than me mentioned trees don’t keep well on sea journeys so im sure Norway didn’t choose a bad tree it just depreciated quickly 🙁

  2. Its a fucking real tree that got felled and shipped. Not a plastic one they got from the shop down the road. Of course its going to have some uneven coverage and be a bit wonky. Its a complete non issue drama drummed up by idiots.

This is without even mentioning the idiots who somehow tried to bring politics into it. “Hurrr its cause we pissed off the norwegians” -“wHo HaVent We pisSed ofF?!”

  3. Literally nobody has called for it to be replaced. Everyone knows its a symbolic gesture of solidarity and are grateful for both the thought and logistics involved.

There have been some wry smiles and meaningless snark at watercoolers about it before the conversation moved on to Eastenders. All the rest is just manufactured clickbait.

  4. Good. At least as far as I’m aware the only people who wanted it to be were on social media. If anyone in an official capacity asked for a replacement that would be incredibly ungracious.

  5. As a Brit… this is the correct response from Norway. If we’re THAT FUCKING UNGRATEFUL for a free gift to recognise our contributions, then fuck us.

There’s nothing wrong with the tree whatsoever. We had this same shit last year, from the same papers, and I keep calling them out on it.

Like a kid at Christmas, if my kid continued to whinge about their gift being shit, I’d take the fucking thing away and they won’t have one at all.

What an offensive snub of a free gift from a centuries-old friend.

Please accept my apologies, Norway, and ignore the racist, Brexit-supporting twats who want to question your decades of historical proffered gratitude based on the thickness of a tree branch.

They are not representative of the British people, and this is a story being stirred up by one paper year after year recently to try to incite anti-European hatred – which is fucking disgusting given the purpose of this tree.

  6. >Norway refuses to pay to replace ‘anaemic’ gift

This makes it sound like the UK ordered Norway to pay for a new tree or something. So combative, and not at all what happened from what I can tell.

A few cunts on social media complained about the state of the tree, the media ran with it, and then a Norway council decided to have a vote on whether or not to pay to replace the tree with a better one. And voted against it.

Westminster Council have only been complimentary of the tree.

  7. Ayyy it’s the thought that counts. I think it looks fine. Thanks Norwegian friends 🙏.

    >One social media user said

Oh I see. Well that social media user can go fuck themselves the ungrateful twat. 😃
