Ministers rip up legal protections for torture victims and suicidal asylum seekers at Manston

  1. I would be interested to hear Starmer’s response to this however I fear his deafening silence will just be more evidence of his tacit approval of the current tory trend to erode all levels of our rights before they lose power.

I can only imagine he is happy for the the Tories to do the work of the authoritarian right so he doesn’t have to show his true colours directly to the public.

  2. If they can do this to asylum seekers, they can do it to us. And if they can do it freely, unquestioned by the press or public, they will.

  3. Unless everyone in the UK unites in a revolt I don’t see what else we can do. We are stuck with the tories for pretty much 2 more years and Labour will take over which is better but still not good. I’m not sure what other parties better align with the people and the planet (Maybe green?) but we are pretty much stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea indefinitely.

  4. I mean, based on how disgustingly racist and xenophobic this sub has become, I suspect many people on this sub approves of this.

  5. >because obligations to report concerns about torture, suicidal ideas, mental health or any person “injuriously affected by continued detention” are being removed

Let me guess, those who do still opt to report such things will mysteriously find themselves made redundant or transferred
