shopkeepers of Ireland, is this still usable in a shop? or is it too far gone?

  1. anything 51% or over is still legal tender… that is until the digital lizard overseers get their way.

  2. YMMV, but I was handed a fiver that was taped back together as change from a Chinese once. Used it again in the same Chinese no bother.

  3. I’d accept it and work in Galway sure the boss will be going to the bank anyways he get a full one if he wants

  4. TOURISM SHOP!

I used to work there and that bill is a blessing! We have a lot of tourists that they’re using only cash (more likely if they’re from another continent) and sometimes it’s a nightmare to try to get change for them.

  5. The problem is not the bill is too far damaged. The issue is what are you gonna buy for 5 Euro in a shot? A coffee?!

  6. Was handed one in worse condition the other day. The cashier noticed it’s condition before handing it to me. I raised an eyebrow in acknowledgement but acceped it. I handed it back to the same cashier a few days later, she was about to refuse it when that pesky eyebrow did a kinda Sean Connery thing and she recognized me, and the note. Knowing smiles were exchanged as we parted.

  7. In the place I used to work, we would accept notes even if they were torn in half. Sellotape does the job

  8. To be honest I’d take it if you got something from the deli. Cus If it’s all you have on you it’s either take it or refuse and have to throw the food out

  9. I doubt the lad on €11 an hour behind the till will give a shit, unless they’ve specifically been instructed by management

  10. The bank will exchange for a new one, but only the half that has the barcode/serial number.

If this half does not have that, its useless.

  11. I’ve got a previously used for snorting coke from a shop keeper, didn’t realise as it wasn’t curly anymore but had probably about tenners worth of coke still on the edge

  12. Yes. It is still legal tender if there is more than 3/4 of the note left. If you are concerned about it, go into a bookies and most will swap it for you anyway
