Strep A kills three more children as UK activates alternative medicines plan | Antibiotics

  1. Well, not quite Alternative Medicine. Just alternative antibiotics. No crystal healing being deployed yet thank god.

  2. Was at the doctors for an ear infection, speaking to the nurse, they had two women screaming at the receptionists, demanding to see a doctor as the antibiotics they had been given were “too big to swallow”, turns out that there kids were adamant that they pills were too big to swallow.

Got chatting to the sister who was seeing me, and she said that it has been hell, and that getting hold of the antibiotics was incredibly difficult. She stated that it was a combination of things, but mostly Brexit causing delays in shipping and customs, lack of staff available throughout the NHS work chain etc

Being honest I have no idea if this is the exact cause of the antibiotic shortage, as I do not have enough info to make an informed statement, but seems plausible.

The worst part was that she voted Remain (in the EU) and her husband voted leave (lol).

I do think people vastly underestimated just how global everything is now, and how much the EU benefited us in terms of workforce, trade goods and freedom of movement.

  3. These protocols should be permanent.

Unless there’s a reason why only one formulation is suitable then the prescriptions should just be for “X doses of penicillin at strength Y”, then let the pharmacist handle tablets vs. syrup etc.

  4. I could negotiate an easy supply from India for lower rates the NHS usually pay, they’re at an abundance and the logistics can be streamlined, but these contacts are full of corruption, unfortunately.
