How many were there at the 1950 World Cup? 1954? 1958?

  2. Arrests and disorder for England fixtures are generally very low anyway. In [2021-22](https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/football-related-arrests-and-banning-orders-england-and-wales-2021-to-2022-season/football-related-arrests-and-banning-orders-england-and-wales-2021-to-2022-season#summary), arrests at international games (England and Wales) were 3.2/100,000.

It’s very difficult to get hold of England tickets without membership and an awful lot of the idiots have been long since banned. When you add in the distance and cost to travel, it’s not really a surprise.

It’s why the Euro 2020 was something of an anomaly (it accounted for 90 out of 92 arrests at international games that year) – the sorts of people trying to break into the stadium with a flare up their arse were not the sorts of people joining official membership schemes to get tickets for Qatar.

  3. Alcohol is the best drug on the market and I’m so glad a large part of our culture is based on consuming ungodly amounts of it, long live the king and alcoholism

  4. Can we stop with this false narrative that English fans are uniquely violent? We’re the tamest compared to most other football mad countries

  5. Alcohol doesn’t cause violence eh?

I also think that just maybe a lot of the more working class types might have been priced out or put off from going.
Don’t get m wrong, I come from a very working class and rough background so that’s why I can definitely say you’ll get far more punch ups on a Saturday at the dog and duck than a swanky bar in Chelsea. It’s a cultural thing.

  6. There are far less fans in Qatar this time around though due to the boycott and generally hostile environment. And the penalties for misbehaviour are far worse.

  7. Are you telling me they didn’t arrest the fans wearing crusader outfits…in a Muslim country where you face prison for CBD oil??

  8. How many England fans actually travelled though? I’ve not followed the world cup at all but at the start I could have sworn all the fans looked like they were paid to attend

  9. A country that, has a history of Human Rights abuse, a lack of rights for half the population, and shares surprisingly similar traits to other countries that, say, still use torture methods and have public executions, is a pretty good incentive to not get arrested when there is a very real possibility of you not coming back

  10. not being pissed off your head promotes better behavior? Shocking.

Whatever other concerns I have with the countries in this region, the ability to go out and not have drunken yobs ruining the evening is one of the better points.

  11. Well done to all the fans who were there in Qatar for staying out of trouble. Credit where it’s due. This fact should be publicised more widely to counter the England fan/ hooligan narrative.

  12. Significantly fewer fans went and no booze. Simple. I also suspect they made a lot less money off of them.

  13. So after all this time, we find out it was the gays causing all the problems at England games.
