From Declan McBennett group head of RTE sport
Over 1 million people watched the penalty shootout in the Messi Mbappe World Cup final on RTE2 television. A further 478k streams throughout on @RTEplayer . A huge team ever across @RTEsport both in front & behind the scenes & a credit to all involved. pic.twitter.com/trWTZTAQjX

It was a deadly game of football ( and this coming from a non football bloke )
Sent a message to the world that dreams do come through ⚽
Didn’t want France to win and it’s been a long time coming for the Argentinians. So great result.
I streamed most matches I watched through he player android app. Have to say it was fairly good quality. Only one of the semis, did it crash a couple of times, but other than that, was good.
Thee World Cup was the first good experience I had with RTE Player, though I did have ad blockers going.
Love how is was the Messi Mbappe World Cup final not ARG FRA
Did anyone who declared they wouldn’t watch any of the World Cup for ethical reasons end up caving in?
Don’t tell them who won.. it will stop buffering any second now..
I watched all the games on the rte player app and Chromecasted it on my tv. I have to say the experience and quality was great and I didn’t have to watch one ad surprisingly.
Why so many people streaming given it was on outside office hours. People just don’t have tvs or aerials?
I watched it and I am not a sports fan, it was great football and drama. I was angry at the death of workers in the building of the stadiums, the suppression of gay and drinking but the matches were good but we shouldn’t forget the problems. Also glad Argentina won.
