  1. According to the [historical currency calculator,](https://www.eurologisch.at/docroot/waehrungsrechner/#/) 100 Schilling in 1990 would be worth 14,72€ in 2022. This would be a lunch at a middle class restaurant or groceries for 1 person for half a week to one week if only vegetables. A public transport ticket for Vienna in 1994 cost 50 Schilling for 24 hours or 130 Schilling for 72h ([Source: Wien Geschichte Wiki](https://www.geschichtewiki.wien.gv.at/Stra%C3%9Fenbahn)). An annual ticket cost 4.700 Schilling in the same year. In 1995, a train ticket for a distance of 51-60 Kilometers cost 94 Schilling, a ticket for a distance of 61-70 kilometers 110 Schilling ([Source: ÖBB Timetable Winter 1995, P. 31](https://timetableworld.com/ttw-viewer.php?token=fd868ec6-315f-4c7a-90d9-e1d68f6f4448)). The median monthly income for male employees (mostly full time) in 1991 would be: 15.000 Schilling per year for employees of restaurants, 21.000 Schilling for retail workers, 30.000 Schilling for employees of banks, 20.000 Schilling for teachers, 14.000 Schilling for steel workers, 27.000 Schilling for mine workers, 30.000 schilling for employees of the energy sector ([source](https://wug.akwien.at/WUG_Archiv/1993_19_3/1993_19_3_0265.pdf)).

  2. Additional info for you:

When you look on to the “newer” design 500 and 1000 Schilling banknotes, they planned to roll the design out for the other denominations as well, if there has been no Euro

  3. Please ignore half of the buying examples here, because they are nonsense.

In any case, if you want examples, it might help to specify a year. Inflation is real.

  4. This is quite a while ago, I think I was a bit older than 10 when it was changed.

You need to put 23 years of inflation into account so the value of 100 Schillling does not really represent ~7 Euros.

I remember I could purchase groceries for 2-4 days with it. Approximately what I can now do with ~20 Euros.

It does sound like the Euro had a high inflation but you should take into account that a worker in 1970 got around 1800 Schilling in the end of the month.
    By 2010 it was 1800 Euros…

  5. If it helps you, at the time the Euro was invented the exchange-rate was 1€ = 13,76 Schilling. So 100,– ATS (Austrian Schilling) were approximately € 7,25.

I was, however, way toonyoung back then to have and concept of prices. I know a lolly was ~ € 0,25 and the bakery at school had a two “pizza breads” (smallish white bread with pizza topping) for 1€ deal (€ 0,65 regular).

Also when ordering a Leberkässemmerl you could ask for a “1€ Leberkässemmel” which was usually just a normal one at a discount.

I dont know what these items cost in ATS tho.
