Why Polish historical films are so good while Polish comedies (especially TVN-produced) are so lame?

  1. Because most people simply favour history oriented material over comedies (with the rich war-oriented history and the cultural significance of it in Poland), so it gets more budget and a bigger viewership. Another thing is that comedies (especially on TVN as you said) are catered towards normie comedy and a diffrent target audience.

  2. there were only few polish movies that were fun to watch. the rest was kinda meeh.

  3. Comedies? More like romantic movies with the same cast every film and “drunk uncle during wedding” type of humour.

  4. Trying to think of a historical movie that is actually a good movie, over a filmed historical patriotic essay.

  5. Idk daleko od noszy, świat według kiepskich, miodowe lata… I liked them all

  6. Polish comedies used to be good. Killer, Seksmisja, Job…

  7. Honestly older comedies are quite good. For example “Brunet wieczorową porą” is really good and I recommend watching it

  8. we’re talking about Poland, it’s illegal to laugh here

  9. Not sure what films you’re watching OP, but there are plenty of great Polish comedies like Miś, Kogel Mogel, Kingsajz, Listy do M and this year Jeszcze przed świętami.

In contrast a recent production line of truly dreadful, low budget historical tosh generally produced in cahoots with PiS and their acolytes. Like Kurier, Bitwa o Anglię, Piłsudski and many more have been churned out seemingly non stop…probably targeting Polonia in the US and voters who will watch anything they’re told to by Kaczek.

  10. Koterski and Bareja are the names I think of when I think of polish comedy, but sure, most of the rest is not too good

  11. Polish comedies are top notch especially the older ones. What you are talking about are romantic comedies

  12. Met up with my cousin at the end of october, she said she’s stoked for next month as “Listy do M 5” is coming out. I couldn’t even digest the 2nd part as my cringeometer was off the charts, why the fuck did they think making 3 more of these is profitable

  13. Bro, check old comedies like: psy, kiler, kilerów dwóch, chłopaki nie płaczą, poranek kojota, miś, dzień świra, seksmisja, nic śmiesznego

  14. Kiler 1&2? Seksmisja? Chlopaki nie placza? e=mc2? Vinci? Testosteron? Dzien swira? Poranek Kojota? Series like Blok Ekipa, Egzorcysta…

WTF are you on, my man? Polish comedy is pure fucking gold. Saying that as a non-polish person.

  15. Which Polish historical movies? I don’t remember any good modern historical movie.

  16. The Historical Comedies are the best tho, *Giuseppe in Warsaw* has to be one of my favorites

  17. 90s and early 2000s was the golden age of Polish comedy, in my opinion

  18. Don’t watch new Polish comedies. If you won’t watch these, you’ll be fine.

  19. Polish “comedies” is the shittiest shit possibile, I dont know who gives money to those “directors” for making this crap

  20. It looks like after 1989 comedies were considered a non-serious endeavour, unworthy of a true artist. There were a few lucky outliers like Killer, Chłopaki nie płaczą, Poranek kojota or Rozmowy kontrolowane. Marek Koterski had a good hand for comedy, however he preferred to do tragicomedies, like Dzień Świra or Nic Śmiesznego.

Later producers and actors started treating comedies as quick cash grabs, where you don’t have to do your best, just fit within the budget and everybody walks away with a decent profit. If they have a good script, this can lead to a decent movie, like Testosteron or, arguably, first part of Listy do M. Most of the time, I have doubts if they even bother with having a script, and the results are, predictably, shit.

  21. Old comedies are pretty good, it’s just the modern ones that follow the same shitty formula

  22. Aren’t they filmed in TV episodes and then they make the movie by pasting them all together

  23. You should watch Mietczynski’s “Masochista” playlist on YT

  24. Why polish bla bla bla

    Kocham was
    Po prostu musiałem

  25. As someone unfamiliar with Polish cinema, what are some good recs for Polish historical films and comedies? Other genres are acceptable.

  26. Actually polish comedies were awesome, same as polish gangster movies… Unfo this went down the drain few years ago already.

  27. older polish comedies are literally the funniest shit, I’ve never laughed harder

  28. The best Polish movies are comedies, Seksmisja, Jak rozpętałem II Wojnę Światową, Miś, Killer, Dzień Świra, Sami Swoi, first and second Kogel-Mogel and probably more

  29. Some older Polish comedies are okay, but even the good one are so. fucking. sad. Poles can’t create comedies without trying to make it laugh through tears type of humour

  30. You obviously haven’t seen modern historical movies that have been made in the last 7 or so years.

  31. I think comedy everywhere is just a drying out genre since everything is a lot more subjective

  32. Then I was kid I remember old polish comedy trilogy with name “neighbors” or something like that. First part was about 1945 period and last about 1980s. As I remember it was quite interesting and funny. P.S. I am not Polish.

  33. If you want something to just watch and chill and sometimes laugh, go for “13 Posterunek”. Most of it is on YouTube 😀
