RTÉ Player is a separate service and nothing to do with the TV license
Ahhh, the weekly RTÉ player is shite thread! Yes it is absolute shite, but what do you expect from a small Irish indy company…. Ohw wait…
It’s an absolute disgrace.
Weidly I found it perfect for live matches during the world cup when I was expecting it to be dire. Nothing appeals to me in on demand library bit so not sure if that’s still shite or has improved
I don’t even watch Irish television, I don’t have it on my tv . But I pay the tv licence because I have a tv
Got 4 envelopes in the door trough the month of december only already , with a massive “NO JUNK MAIL” sign on our door. At what point does this become unwarranted harassment and what legal recourse do i have to deal with these cunts? … im yet to catch the bastarsds in the act , when i do it wont be pretty…
While we’re at it, I never, fucking ever watch RTE. Maybe for WC coverage but I’d happily kiss that goodbye. Never listen to their radio either. Serves me no purpose. Still have to pay. Try to pay monthly they make you print out a form and post it in. Shambles.
Everything but the passport renewals needs to be thought through again by competent people
>The spokesperson added that during the recent World Cup the RTÉ Player “delivered its highest concurrent audiences ever, with a total of 8.5 million streams and 1.8 million unique devices”, adding that this “demonstrates that our efforts have been effective”.
How many of those 8.5 millions streams were live streams? I’m betting the majority were. I am also betting the majority of complaints were about the catchup/on demand section. The live player is fairly hard to fuck up.
Incidentally, does anyone know who got the contract to develop it initially, and who develops it now?
3 years into independent living, still don’t have a TV licence. Life is good
It’s not the RTÉ player I have an issue with, it’s the absolute shite RTÉ pay good money to have made, the terribly biased news coverage, the inept weather forecasting service, the repeats and reruns of old shows (excluding Father Ted, because it’s just timeless and you can watch the same episode for the 50th time and you’ll still laugh at it), and then of course the biggest culprits of all as to why I hate the idea of a television licence:
1. The ridiculous salaries RTÉ pay their talentless twats they put on the airwaves. There are far better and more charismatic people that could do the job for a fraction of the cost.
2. The fact they get a licence fee AND have ads. That’s up there for me with paying road tax AND having tolls. One or the other motherfuckers, but not both! Typical of this country.
