>In response, Crouch told BBC Sport: “My report merely wishes to see more money going to grassroots, ensure that football clubs don’t go bust, put diversity on the agenda and give fans a say on key issues. Maoism killed millions and millions of people.”
Nice response
It’s clubs like his, mid and lower table Premier League sides, that would benefit most from this. An independent regulator would help reign in the out of control wage inflation in English football.
Not so long ago, his club was complaining and trying to throw Sky Sports out of their stadium because the money they were getting from TV was causing them to run matches at a loss.
That would not have happened if player wages at the two, now three, billionaire clubs hadn’t had a knock-on effect all the way down the pyramid.
I’d like to see the German model of fan-owned clubs take off over here, at least that way fans could make their voices heard better. It’s not perfect but it brings fans back into the game and closer to the clubs they love. Clubs should not be run by billionaires who only care about the money they make, such as the Glazers or Kroenke.
What an awful take. He may as well have said it was like the Holocaust or something
