The concept of ‘hate crime’ for anything other than statistical analysis seems quite sinister to me.
A white man victimising a black man would get a lesser sentence if it could be reasonably thought he would be equally likely to do it to anyone, if my understanding is correct.
Additionally, I thought we had moved past the “higher penalty = less crime” myth?

Thankfully Poland and Hungary will veto it. It’s better to be right for the wrong reasons then to be wrong for the right ones.
