A controversial redesign of the interior of Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris — including possible street art installations and softer mood lighting — will be considered by heritage authorities on Thursday.
hurch authorities are adamant the plans — part of a wider rebuilding project following a devastating fire in 2019 — are not revolutionary and will simply offer visitors a warmer welcome.
But the prospective changes have already sparked criticism, with around 100 public figures putting their names to an opinion piece in right-wing newspaper Le Figaro on Wednesday saying they “entirely undermine the decor and religious space” of the Gothic landmark.
Twenty experts are meeting on Thursday at the National Heritage and Architecture Commission to hear the presentation by the church authorities, with a vote due later in the day.
Please don’t wreck it with something wacky
Oh for fuck sake…..
Street art in Notre Dame ?
The ones who oppose it are right wing ?
Guess it’s time to be right wing….sigh
The fact that it’s the church authorities who want to “modernize” the cathedral (presumably on the stance bring Notre-Dame into the 21st century), and that it’s the wider populace that wants to keep it traditional and respect “the decor and religious space”… idk, it feels like roles have been confused here.
Not saying it was a good idea to begin with, but you’d think the people publicly pining for maintaining cultural and religious tradition would be the same folks giving services there, not the secular citizenry.
>One Paris-based architect told The Art Newspaper that this risked turning Notre-Dame “into Disneyland”.
Millions of people pay a fortune every year to go and experience Disneyland. Its clearly a positive experience for most people so I dont see delusional architects insist on using it as a perjorative, if anything most people like it and will pay substantially to experience “Disneyland” so maybe tuck your ego away and take a page from then on how to make popular attractive places.
Just as you start projecting Bible verses here and there, maybe a Jesus hologram on the cross would do. Def would hype up the ambiance.
There’s a place for everything and in my mind modern street art does not fit in with Notre-Dame. However it is for the French (obviously) to decide what is most fitting.

Yikes. Bring some Russians over to Paris. The Russians are masters of restoration. Like their restoration of [Trinity Cathedral](http://www.saint-petersburg.com/cathedrals/trinity-cathedral/) in St Petersburg after a [2006 fire](http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_pictures/5287862.stm). Or the complete restoration of the [Peterhof Palace](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peterhof_Palace) after it was [totally gutted](https://remainsoftheday.wordpress.com/2016/04/17/peterhof-during-wwii/) in WWII by German bombing.
