Is this just a display of political muscles? We test more and so have more cases, it doesn’t actually mean we have more. The UK is a shitshow these days but we are being treated like the disease capital of the world.
Aw shit I’m supposed to be going to France on Boxing Day lol – that’s a spanner in the works
Shitting hell I’m going skiing in February I bloody hope they lift it before then
I was expecting this after yesterday. More countries to follow presumably.
It’s interesting watch everyone act too slow yet again, the variant will be picking up in France soon regardless of whether Brits are allowed in or out.
This is just so they can go “look we did try to stop it! you can’t shout at us!”.
I don’t see the benefit to this? They already require PCR tests to enter. They’re just losing out on a fuck load of winter sports tourism for people who aren’t infected?
Ah yes after months of careful planning my first holiday since the pandemic began will now be cancelled.
Another gut punch for us residents of plague island
It was always on cards, and now Macron gets the domestic kudos of being the first to pull the trigger on the Brits.
I’m fucking devastated. My parents are supposed to be coming over on Sunday…
I’ve not seen them for nearly 3 years and they’re getting towards that stage in their life where 3 years is too long
Previously with Delta+ and now with Omicron – why is the UK a world leader in allowing new variants to spread quickly? Are we just better at testing and sequencing or is it genuinely spreading quicker than anywhere else in the world due to lax travel and domestic restrictions?
Spain to follow suit tomorrow according to a travel agent chum.
According to worldometers, France just recorded 65,713 covid cases. Best of luck imagining that none of them were omicron.
The same France that reported 65,000 cases yesterday with just over half the testing? That France?
I did French at uni lived there for a year, have a French- speaking job and a Frenchie gf, I love and respect that country. But by God they make it hard sometimes.
Why is it that no matter where each new variant comes from we become the epicentre. The exact same thing happened with delta
Purely for political, rather than scientific/Health reasons.
They say French citizens and family would be accepted. Do you know what are the rules regarding what is considered “family”? My partner and I were scheduled to go, only one of us is French and we’re not married. Does that means this is scraped?
What are the actual fucking rules? Can you drive through france to get to the UK from mainland Europe, and vice versa?
This is designed to slow down the effect of Omicron. France is reaching the peak of the delta wave right now, and by slowing down the spread of Omicron, which is already present of course in France, it will hopefully avoid an immediate Omicron acceleration from an already tense situation.
The UK decided to take away all red list countries using the logic that Omicron is already widespread and it’s therefore pointless to maintain such measures for the UK. It’s only natural therefore that the protection measure originally in place by the UK is picked up by EU countries in order to acheive the effect mentioned above, especially taking into account the tens of thousands of Brits that travel to the Alps at this time of year.
There is a coordination meeting scheduled between all EU member states to put into place common measures with respect to the UK, so expect the measures announced by France to be made more widespread soon.
That’s another ski holiday gone then for fucks sake
We need to just stop these travel bans now. They don’t make any difference. Omicron will be the dominant strain in France soon just as it will in the UK. Unless you lockdown forever this is a pointless political exercise.
Seems like UK media are confused about what is and what is not allowed concerning travel to France. Hope this clears it up for people :
From Saturday 18 December 2021 (**0h**) the following rules will apply to all travelers arriving from the UK, whether or not they are vaccinated : ***All travellers must have a compelling reason*** ***to travel*** *to or come from the UK, for unvaccinated and vaccinated people. Valid compelling reasons are indicated below (*).*
***Travellers will not allow travel for tourist reasons****. Being French or legally resident in France is a compelling reason to return to France. Also, their spouse (married, civil union, or cohabiting partner (on presentation of proof of community of life)) and their children will still be able to come to France.
***All travellers will need to present a negative PCR or TAG (antigen) test of less than 24 hours.***
*All travelers from the United Kingdom must register, prior to their trip, on a digital platform making it possible in particular to provide the address of their stay in France. This platform will make it possible to generate prefectural orders fixing the obligation of isolation in the place of their choice for all travelers, unvaccinated as vaccinated. This isolation requirement may be waived from 48 hours, subject to being able to justify a negative PCR or TAG (antigen) test.*
**(*) List of compelling reasons :**
* French citizens, their spouses (married, civil union and cohabiting) and their children.
* Citizen of the European Union or equivalent, and their spouse (married, civil union or cohabiting partner) and their children, whose main residence is in France or who is returning, in transit through France, to their main residence in a European Union country or equivalent, or to a country whose nationality they hold;
* Citizens of other countries with a valid French or European residence permit or long-stay visa whose main residence is in France or who are in transit through France to their main residence in a European Union country or a similar country.
* British citizens and their family members who are beneficiaries of the agreement on the withdrawal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community. British civil servants exercising their duties, border police officers and customs officers. Channel Tunnel staff (engaged inter alia in operations, maintenance, security) or cross-Channel facilities staff.
* Citizens of other countries holding a long-stay visa issued for purposes of ordinary family reunion or refugee family reunification, beneficiaries of subsidiary protection and stateless persons.
* Foreign health or research professionals involved in the fight against COVID-19 as well as their spouse (married, civil partner, cohabiting partner subject to proof of community of life) and children.
* Foreign health or research professional engaged as an associate trainee.
* Citizens of other countries with a “talent passport” long-stay visa, as well as their spouse (married, civil union or cohabiting partner on presentation of proof of community of life) and children.
* Students enrolled in French as a foreign language (FFL) courses prior to enrolment in higher education or admitted to the oral examinations of French higher education institutions or enrolled to begin the new 2021-2022 academic year. Researcher or teacher (including language assistants) settling in France at the invitation of a research laboratory, for research activities requiring a physical presence, as well as his/her spouse (married, civil union, cohabiting partner on presentation of proof of community of life) and his/her children.
* Workers in the land, sea and air transport sector or transport service providers (including drivers of any vehicle transporting goods for use in the territory as well as those only in transit, or travelling as passengers to resettle in their home base or for training).
* Foreign citizen working for a diplomatic or consular mission, or an international organisation with its headquarters or an office in France, as well as their spouse and their children or a foreign citizen of a third country staying in France for a compelling professional reason under a mission order issued by their country of origin.
* Travellers in transit for less than 24 hours in an international zone.

FFS. My mum was supposed to come to France on Saturday to look after my son, next week. Now it’s too late to reserve any other kind of childcare and I’ve got no annual leave left.
Feeling pretty scammed about getting the vaccine RN
Remember, this is all for your protection.
Remember all those freedoms we gave up during the War on Terror for our protection and then we never suffered terrorist attacks ever again!
Awesome. So not only are we living in a dystopian hellhole, we’re now trapped in it. Absolutely brilliant.
It’s all just political dick swinging. The virus is already everywhere. Entry should be based on vaccination status – unless we are now considering them ineffective? In which case, what a waste of fucking time that was.
Was in Paris in Nov, everyone on public transport was wearing a mask, in shops wearing masks. UK gov dropping all prevention measures and barely enforcing them when they were in was a mistake.
This is on Boris and the Tories again.
My father in France is 81. He has pancreatic cancer. He and my mother are residents but not citizens
This is my last chance to see him
Can I still go?
Seems fair enough given the situation, it won’t stop Omicron but you might as well shut off the sources of lots of infections if you can.
This is actually pretty funny the bloody double triple vaxxed travelers spreading the rona
Was about to visit this weekend.
FUCK YOU MACRON YOU STUPID FUCK THIS IS WHY YOU GOT SLAPPED
Hi ! French person here. I hopped on this post to try to find some information as we where expecting some British friends to join us for Christmas.
Found all the info I needed, and I noticed quite a few person blaming macron re-election bid for that move. Although it could seem as a distinct possibility when living in the UK, from a french POV its looks super unlikely: no one care or really noticed the travel ban in France, if you go to [lemonde.fr](https://lemonde.fr), [lefigaro.fr](https://lefigaro.fr) or [liberation.fr](https://liberation.fr) you’ll notice how far you have to scroll to find an article.
Happy holydays neighbours
They will be in the same position as the UK in a week regardless of these restrictions. This is literally just because their president is still mad about the fish. Checked the French subreddit and they seem to agree.
I’m very sad too. I haven’t been able to see my parents and family for 2 years. It’s ridiculous.
I was supposed to visit my father for Christmas who is a british citizen living in France. I guess that is off the table? I haven’t lived in France for just over a year now so I don’t have residency
This is a very good time to rejoice in being a non British person in UK 🙃. Nice to have the perks for once in this post Brexit climate of “fuck foreigners”
