I’m all for self determination sure but Brexit went wrong for many reasons and Scottish Independence won’t be a walk in the park either. By all means say that Scotland is better off out because it can make its own decisions but they would also be having slumps in GDP.

Excerpt:
>The SNP has said it is clear self-determination for Scotland is the only way forward after a report by John Springford at the Centre for European Reform (CER) concluded that between April and June, the UK’s economic output after Brexit was £33 billion lower than if it was still part of the EU – resulting in around £12 billion in lost tax revenues.
>Since 2018, Springford has been modelling the economic performance of a UK that remained within the European Union – using data from countries which performed similarly to the UK prior to Brexit.
>Stewart Hosie, the SNP’s economy spokesperson, said it is yet another statistic which shows Brexit was a mistake.
>Last year, research showed the UK’s decision to break away from the EU cost service exports more than £110 billion over a four-year period.
>From 2016 to 2019, service exports from the UK were cumulatively £113bn lower than they would have been had the UK voted to remain in the EU, according to researchers at Aston University in Birmingham.
>A study from Ireland’s Economic and Social Research Institute earlier this year also found that Brexit had cut exports from the UK to the EU by 16%, compared to expected levels if the UK had voted to remain.

short term pains for long term gains.
remember: GDP = / = quality of life.
Brexit isn’t the problem; the government is the problem.
The economic argument is against both independence and brexit. Even if Scotland rejoins the EU they’d be worse off economically than staying a part of the UK.
SNP absolutely terrified of Labour. If Labour win in estminster and start sorting things out, they lose a huge part of their campaigning material.
The stronger Starmer looks, the more aggressive Sturgeon will get on this.
God how are people still seriously trying to rewrite history? “not working” as if there was ever anything it could allow to work anyway
Ever want to see how well independence will be for Scotland. Just look at how well the U.K. is doing leaving the EU.
Considering the massive bias and nationalism of the SNP, I take everything they saw about Britain with a pinch of salt
Lmao, Scotland can’t survive by itself it’s just a nonstarter.
Pro EU organisation says UK would have done better in EU. And that’s news?
Then the headline, “GDP slumped 5.5% in second quarter”???? No it didn’t. Not even according to the biased research.
Is Ireland is a good model for Scotland to follow?
Ireland Per Capita GDP(2022) is US$83.8k.
United Kingdom Per Capita GDP(2022) is US$41.9
Is this forecast or guess? Isn’t the GDP report out on Thursday and not Wednesday today?
It will be tough for Scotland but the question is how much tougher will it be than Brexit? If so, for how long? Labour under Starmer are going to stick with Brexit, so Scotland will be out of the EU for the foreseeable future under either of the two main parties. I can see that being persuasive for some voters, however the SNP are going to need a concrete plan on how to weather the first few years, otherwise they risk something similar to a Brexit-style promise themselves.
I’m sorry but where the fuck have they got that from the only time you see that happen is if your engaged in a literal war and are getting bombed
5.5% in a quarter?
Jesus fucking christ that’s not a recession, that’s a catastrophe.
We can’t afford another 3 months of the tories, let alone another 2 years
Independence thought to be 3x as bad, yet the SNP still push that lol
Terrible idea, but fuck it, may as well burn it all down at this point.
What people forget, is that like any divorce a clean break is almost impossible.
Brexit for example .
We didn’t just walk away, we are still paying billions in our “obligations” (remember the bus millions for the NHS, well when we stop paying into the eu maybe we can channel that money to the NHS.) ,
we also left negotiations of a post Brexit trade deal to people who didn’t want us to leave, and to be frank I personally believe that we would have been better off without any rushed deal. But that’s something for another Reddit.
I think that Scottish independence would cause more problems than it solves.especiallynof a hard border is put In place.
Can we just give them what they want ffs? Scotland are a net drain on England anyway. The whole country should get to vote on this issue not just Scottish people.
“Leaving a union has hurt our economy, to solve this, we should leave an even more integral union”
I understand the call for independence, god knows if I was Scottish I’d want to distance myself from the fuckers in Westminster as well. But to think this would have anything other than more economical impacts, at least in the short – medium term, is a bit naïve.
